Kiwifruit rot caused by the fungus Alternaria alternata occurs in many countries, leading to considerable losses during kiwifruit production. In this study, we evaluated the antifungal activity and mechanism of tetramycin against kiwifruit soft rot caused by Alternaria alternata. Tetramycin exerted antifungal effects through the suppression of mycelial

Fungi associated with soft rot of yams (Dioscorea spp.) in storage in Nigeria
Transactions of the British Mycological Society, 1970The organisms which cause soft rot of yams (Dioscorea spp.) in storage are identified as Botryodiplodia theobromae Pat., Fusarium moniliforme var. subgluti-nans Wr. & Rg., Penicillium sclerotigenum Yamamoto, and Aspergillus niger van Tiegh. The fungi enter through wounds and natural openings on the surface of the tubers.

Colonisation of Wood by Soft-Rot Fungi
1975Colonisation of Pinus radiata D. Don sapwood by soft-rot fungi was examined by sequential light microscopy. The wood was exposed under various conditions of both natural infection and infection by pure culture. Soft-rot was more pronounced in wood exposed in undisturbed, unsterile soils than in unsterile, sieved soil or sterilised soil inoculated with ...

Acetylated wood was exposed to decay by brown, white and soft rot in order to address the sorption behaviour of decayed wood. The sorption isotherms were analysed using the Hailwood–Horrobin model. It was found that the different types of decay exhibit different sorption properties.

A small group of soft rotting wood decay fungi produce extracellular pigments as secondary metabolites in response to stress and as a means of resource capture. These fungi are collectively known as "spalting fungi" and have been used in wood art for centuries.

Changes in the Chemical Composition of Wood Caused by Six Soft-Rot Fungi
Phytopathology, 1975Standardized blocks of alder, poplar, and pine wood were hemicellulose (xylan). Lignin, which was analyzed by the decayed by six soft-rot fungi (Graphium sp., Monodictys sp., “sulfuric acid” method, was depleted by all the fungi. Pine Paecilomyces sp., Papulospora sp., Thielavia terrestris, and was not decayed significantly by three of the fungi, and ...

Perforation hyphae of soft rot fungi in the wood of white spruce [Picea glauca (Moench.) Voss.]
Wood Science and Technology, 1974Observations made on ponded white spruce wood with the electron microscope revealed that initial branching of perforation hyphae of soft rot fungi did not parallel microfibrillar orientation in the S2 wall layer but rather occurred perpendicular to this alignment.

The Soft Rot Fungi: Their Mode of Action and Significance in the Degradation of Wood
1966Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the soft rot fungi, its histology, technique used for study, and modes of action are discussed. The term “soft rot” is used to designate any instance of the characteristic penetration and growth of hyphae within the secondary cell walls of wood whether or not softening of the surface is evident.

Postharvest control of soft-rot fungi on grape berries by fungicidal treatment and Trichoderma
Journal of Applied Horticulture, 2006The present research deals with the effect of postharvest treatment of grape berries with four commonly used fungicides and two forms of Trichoderma harzianum on the infection with soft-rot fungi- Rhizopus stolonifer and Mucor piriformis. This effect was evaluated by comparison of the external diameter of rot-lesion in treated and untreated berries, in
