Self‐demise of soft rot bacteria by activation of microbial predators by pectin‐based carriers

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 16, Issue 7, Page 1561-1576, July 2023., 2023
In this research, a low methoxyl pectin‐based immobilization system for Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is established. It takes advantage that pectin residues induce plant cell wall degrading enzymes secretion by the pathogens, bringing upon the release of the encapsulated predators.

Pectobacterium brasiliense: Genomics, Host Range and Disease Management

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Pectobacterium brasiliense (Pbr) is considered as one of the most virulent species among the Pectobacteriaceae. This species has a broad host range within horticulture crops and is well distributed elsewhere.

Bacterial culture and susceptibility of samples taken from septic foot lesions of adult beef cattle

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 37, Issue 2, Page 757-765, March/April 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Lameness is an economically important and common disease of cattle, and foot disease is the most common cause of lameness in cattle. Limited data is available regarding lameness in cow‐calf operations. Objectives Describe the bacteria most commonly isolated from septic lesions of the feet of adult beef cattle and the antimicrobial ...

Early Emergence of Dickeya solani Revealed by Analysis of Dickeya Diversity of Potato Blackleg and Soft Rot Causing Pathogens in Switzerland

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Blackleg and soft rot in potato caused by Pectobacterium and Dickeya enterobacteral genera are among the most destructive bacterial diseases in this crop worldwide. In Europe, over the last century, Pectobacterium spp.

The rice foot rot pathogen Dickeya zeae alters the in‐field plant microbiome

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 23, Issue 12, Page 7671-7687, December 2021., 2021
Summary Studies on bacterial plant diseases have thus far been focused on the single bacterial species causing the disease, with very little attention given to the many other microorganisms present in the microbiome. This study intends to use pathobiome analysis of the rice foot rot disease, caused by Dickeya zeae, as a case study to investigate the ...

Jekyll or Hyde? The genome (and more) of Nesidiocoris tenuis, a zoophytophagous predatory bug that is both a biological control agent and a pest

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, Volume 30, Issue 2, Page 188-209, April 2021., 2021
The annotated genome of predatory mirid Nesidiocoris tenuis presented here was generated from a single female insect using a linked‐read sequencing and assembly strategy. Potential contaminants and/or endosymbionts were identified during assembly decontamination along with putative lateral gene transfer candidates.

Phage cocktail containing Podoviridae and Myoviridae bacteriophages inhibits the growth of Pectobacterium spp. under in vitro and in vivo conditions.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Globally, there is a high economic burden caused by pre- and post-harvest losses in vegetables, fruits and ornamentals due to soft rot diseases. At present, the control methods for these diseases are limited, but there is some promise in developing ...
