Soft sensored grippers in assembly process

Proceedings 1992 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003
The authors discuss the problem of assembly task realization using soft sensored fingers. Because the object grasped with soft fingers can move with respect to the gripper if an external force is applied, a change in the pressure corresponds to a change in the object position.

Soft sensors for on-line biomass measurements

Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering, 2004
One of the difficulties encountered in control and optimisation of bioprocesses is the lack of reliable on-line sensors for their key state variables. This paper investigates the suitability of using on-line recurrent neural networks to predict biomass concentrations. Input variables of the proposed recurrent neural network are feed rate, liquid volume

Contactless deflection sensor for soft robots

2011 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2011
In the emerging field of soft robotics, there is an interest in developing new kinds of sensors whose characteristics do not affect the intrinsic compliance of soft robot components. Additionally, non-invasive shape and deflection sensors may provoke improved solutions to assist in the control of mechanical parts in these robots. Herein, we introduce a

Soft Sensors Based on Deep Neural Networks for Applications in Security and Safety

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2020
Here, this article reports about the design of a soft sensor (SS) able to monitor the hazardous gases in industrial plants. The SS is designed to estimate the gas concentrations by means of the measurements coming from an array of sensors, avoiding at ...

Soft tactile sensor arrays for micromanipulation

2012 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2012
Micromanipulation methods used for complicated tasks such as microrobot assembly and microvascular surgery often lack the force reflection and contact localization capability necessary to achieve robust grasps of micro-scale objects without applying excessive forces.

Soft compressive sensor design and analysis

2015 IEEE 7th International Conference on Cybernetics and Intelligent Systems (CIS) and IEEE Conference on Robotics, Automation and Mechatronics (RAM), 2015
In this paper, a methodology of designing an absolutely soft sensor based on Eco-Flex to detect compression stimuli is proposed. The fundamental structure of this soft sensor is a soft membrane sandwiched by two stretchable carbon grease electrodes, therefore the sensor as a capacitor can convert mechanical deformation to electrical signal.

Soft Thermal Sensor with Mechanical Adaptability

Advanced Materials, 2016
A soft thermal sensor with mechanical adaptability is fabricated by the combination of single-wall carbon nanotubes with carboxyl groups and self-healing polymers. This study demonstrates that this soft sensor has excellent thermal response and mechanical adaptability.
