Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Fully 3D‐Printed Soft Capacitive Sensor of High Toughness and Large Measurement Range

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Soft capacitive sensors are widely utilized in wearable devices, flexible electronics, and soft robotics due to their high sensitivity. However, they may suffer delamination and/or debonding due to their low interfacial toughness.

Adaptive Calibration of Soft Sensors Using Optimal Transportation Transfer Learning for Mass Production and Long‐Term Usage

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, 2020
Soft sensors suffer from high manufacturing tolerances and signal drift from long‐term usage, which degrades their practicality. Although deep learning has recently been proposed to address these issues, it is expensive in terms of data collection and ...

A Feasibility Study in Measuring Soft Tissue Artifacts on the Upper Leg Using Inertial and Magnetic Sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Soft-tissue artifacts cause inaccurate estimates of body segment orientations. The inertial sensor (or optical marker) is orientating (or displacing) with respect to the bone it has to measure, due to muscle and skin movement [1].

Bimodal waveguide interferometer RI sensor fabricated on low-cost polymer platform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A refractive index sensor based on bimodal waveguide interferometer is demonstrated on the low-cost polymer platform for the first time. Different from conventional interferometers which make use of the interference between the light from two arms ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Visually grounded learning of keyword prediction from untranscribed speech

open access: yes, 2017
During language acquisition, infants have the benefit of visual cues to ground spoken language. Robots similarly have access to audio and visual sensors.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...
