Highly Tunable and Cell‐Remodelable Thiol‐ene Alginate‐Peptide Crosslinked Hydrogels to Recreate Cellular and Organoid Microenvironments for Biofabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Norbornene‐functionalized alginate is crosslinked with a di‐thiolated peptide sequence cleavable by cell‐secreted matrix metalloproteinases and decorated with cell‐adhesion peptides upon exposure to UV. Thyroid follicles, endometrial and intestinal organoids are encapsulated in a gentle manner with high cell viability and correct phenotype ...

African swine fever virus – the possible role of flies and other insects in virus transmission

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2020
African swine fever (ASF) is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease of pigs and wild boars. It presents a serious threat to pig production worldwide, and since 2007, ASF outbreaks have been recorded in the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, and the Baltic States. In

Bulk elastic fingering instability in Hele-Shaw cells

open access: yes, 2013
We demonstrate experimentally the existence of a purely elastic fingering instability which arises when air penetrates into an elastomer confined in a Hele-Shaw cell.

A Soft Microrobot for Single‐Cell Transport, Spheroid Assembly, and Dual‐Mode Drug Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, untethered hydrogel microrobot enables precise single‐cell delivery, self‐assembly into 3D spheroids, and real‐time thermal actuation. Driven by light‐induced convection and embedded with gold nanorods and temperature sensors, the microrobot guides cells, modulates local microenvironments, and supports drug testing.

Soft Ticks as Pathogen Vectors: Distribution, Surveillance and Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Ticks are highly specialized obligate haematophagous ectoparasites of mammals, birds and reptiles. Ticks are distributed worldwide and are of enormous medical and veterinary relevance owing to the direct damage they cause to their hosts and, especially, because they are vectors of a large variety of human and animal pathogens. In fact, ticks are second

Remorphable Architectures: Reprogramming Global Bistability through Locally Bistable Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Local bistable reconfiguration in mechanical metamaterials is leveraged in globally bistable architectures to enable in situ reprogrammable transition pathways through state flip of individual building blocks. The local‐to‐global correspondence of instabilities empowers soft robotic systems with on‐demand morphing traits, as well as aerospace ...

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

The First Fermi-LAT SNR Catalog SNR and Cosmic Ray Implications

open access: yes, 2015
Galactic cosmic ray (CRs) sources, classically proposed to be Supernova Remnants (SNRs), must meet the energetic particle content required by direct measurements of high energy CRs.

FK Comae Berenices, King of Spin: The COCOA-PUFS Project [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
COCOA-PUFS is an energy-diverse, time-domain study of the ultra-fast spinning, heavily spotted, yellow giant FK Com (HD117555; G4 III). This single star is thought to be a recent binary merger, and is exceptionally active by measure of its intense ...
