Non-consumptive effects of Cyrtorhinus lividipennis (Hemiptera: Miridae) on development, wing dimorphism, and reproduction in Sogatella furcifera (Hemiptera: Delphacidae)

Biocontrol science and technology (Print)
The white-backed planthopper (WBPH) Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) (Homoptera: Delphacidae) is a significant migratory pest of rice, and Cyrtorhinus lividipennis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae) is an important predatory natural enemy that targets ...

Silencing the serine/threonine kinase Akt gene disrupts reproductive physiology in Sogatella furcifera and confers RNAi‐mediated insect resistance in rice

Pest Management Science
The white‐backed planthopper (WBPH), Sogatella furcifera, is a major destructive pest of rice globally. Plant‐mediated RNA‐interference (RNAi) is an innovative crop protection method where transgenic plants express insect‐specific double‐stranded RNAs ...

RNA Interference-Screening of Potentially Lethal Gene Targets in the White-Backed Planthopper Sogatella furcifera via a Spray-Induced and Nanocarrier-Delivered Gene Silencing System.

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry
RNA interference (RNAi) is a widespread post-transcriptional silencing mechanism that targets homologous mRNA sequences for specific degradation. An RNAi-based pest management strategy is target-specific and considered a sustainable biopesticide. However,

ECOLOGY OF THE WHITE BACKED PLANTHOPPER, Sogatella furcifera IN RICE

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1996
Field populations of S. furcifera (Horvath) at Coimbatore was generally very low and there was not much difference in the population level between the cultivars, Jaya and IR 36. Crops sown in the months of August to November harboured more hoppers. The population caught in the light traps was high during 1979-80 and very low during 1981-82.

Differentially methylated genomic fragments related with sexual dimorphism of rice pests, Sogatella furcifera

Insect Science, 2015
AbstractSogatella furcifera (Hovarth) is a major rice pest with sexual dimorphism. The objective of the current research was to monitor differentially cytosine methylation at CCGG sequences in male and female adults of S. furcifera to determine the association between gene methylation and sexual phenotypes using methylation‐sensitive representational ...

Rice varietal resistance to the vector Sogatella furcifera hinders transmission of Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus.

Pest Management Science
BACKGROUND The Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus (SRBSDV) transmitted by Sogatella furcifera constitutes a threat to the sustainable rice production. However, most rice varieties are highly vulnerable to SRBSDV, whereas the occurrence of the viral

Crucial role of a takeout protein in white‐backed planthopper Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) orientation towards its host rice plants

Pest Management Science
The takeout (TO) gene family impacts diverse physiological and behavioral functions in insects, yet specific olfactory‐associated roles for the family have yet to be fully elucidated. To provide insights into TO function in rice planthoppers, the genomes

Identification and functional analysis of chitinase 7 gene in white-backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2017
Chitinase is used to degrade chitin in insect cuticles and the peritrophic matrix. In this study, the full-length cDNA sequence of a Cht gene (SfCht7) was identified and characterized from the white-black planthopper, Sogatella furcifera. The SfCht7 cDNA was 3148bp, contained an open reading frame of 2877bp and encoded 958 amino acids with a predicted ...

Rainfall during the night can trigger non‐migratory take‐off behavior of the white‐backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera

Insect Science
Take‐off behavior is crucial to the overall success of insect migration. Although most high‐altitude migratory flights commence with mass take‐offs around dusk and dawn, little is known about nighttime take‐off behavior.
