Soil protozoa and soil bacteria [PDF]
Abstract In a paper recently published by Mr. Goodey it is definitely asserted that ciliates, amœbæ and flagellates cannot function as a factor limiting the numbers of bacteria in soils. It does not appear to me that this conclusion is justified by the experimental data given in this paper, and in view of the importance of the subject

Soil Bacterial Communities Exhibit Strong Biogeographic Patterns at Fine Taxonomic Resolution
Bacteria have been inferred to exhibit relatively weak biogeographic patterns. To what extent such findings reflect true biological phenomena or methodological artifacts remains unclear.

Estimating taxon‐specific population dynamics in diverse microbial communities
Understanding how population‐level dynamics contribute to ecosystem‐level processes is a primary focus of ecological research and has led to important breakthroughs in the ecology of macroscopic organisms.

Impact of Various Grass Species on Soil Bacteriobiome
Today, various grass species are important not only in animal feeding but, increasingly often, also in energetics and, due to esthetic and cultural values, in landscape architecture. Therefore, it is essential to establish the roles various grass species

Background The final step in the anaerobic decomposition of biopolymers is methanogenesis. Rice field soils are a major anthropogenic source of methane, with straw commonly used as a fertilizer in rice farming.

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Reduction of Ferric Compounds by Soil Bacteria [PDF]
SUMMARY: Reduction of ferric lactate by washed cell suspensions of Bacillus circulans, B. megaterium and Aerobacter aerogenes takes place in the presence of suitable hydrogen donors. Ferric hydroxide is reduced when αα'-dipyridyl is present in the cell + substrate system.
