A minimal cellulosome‐like system in Cellulosilyticum lentocellum
Cellulose‐degrading bacteria typically use cellulosomes, large multi‐enzyme complexes on a scaffold protein. In Cellulosilyticum lentocellum, we characterise a far smaller arrangement, a single scaffold bound to one cellulase through a single cohesin‐dockerin interaction.

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Bacterial Communities from the Copper Mine of Wettelrode (Germany)
Bacterial communities from three different sampling sites of a copper mine tunnel were characterized by 16S rRNA sequencing (NGS). A high presence of halophilic bacteria was confirmed by comparison with literature data and with reference samples from ...

Dynamics of Bacterial and Viral Communities in Paddy Soil with Irrigation and Urea Application
Viruses are ubiquitous in natural systems. By influencing bacterial abundance (BA) and community structure through lysis-lysogenic conversion, viruses are involved in various ecological processes.

Hysterangium mats and associated bacteria under eucalyptus gomphocephala in south-western Australia [PDF]
Eucalyptus gomphocephala (tuart) is an ecologically and culturally important woodland and forest tree native to south-western Australia. Unfortunately, tuart has been markedly declining in recent decades, and the mortality rate is as high as 90% in some ...

Bacteria and Soil Enzymes Supporting the Valorization of Forested Soils
To decompose forest biomass, microorganisms use specific enzymes from the class of oxidoreductases and hydrolases, which are produced by bacteria and soil fungi. In post-agricultural forest soils, bacteria adapt more easily to changing ecological conditions than fungi.
