Mapping the “Supply–Demand–Flow” of Ecosystem Services for Ecosystem Management in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a “supply–demand–flow” framework clarifies how ecosystem services move between regions by distinguishing potential and actual supply and demand. Using integrated biophysical–socioeconomic modeling, nine services in China were mapped.

Laws of Sustainable Soil Management [PDF]

open access: yesAgronomy for Sustainable Development, 2009
The challenge of doubling the world’s food grain production by 2030 is even more daunting because of the decrease in per capita arable land area and renewable fresh water resources; increase in risks of soil and environmental degradation; and threat of decrease in use efficiency of inputs because of the projected climate change.

Hydrogen (H2) Recovery From Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S): Current Technologies, Challenges, and Future Outlook

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) can be transformed into hydrogen (H2) through several chemical and catalytic processes, offering a promising route for both waste treatment and clean H2 production. This colorless, flammable, and toxic gas is found abundantly in swamps, volcanoes, hot springs, sewages, other natural gas fields, and even in refineries and

Impact of various soil amendments on temporal NPK release, soil quality and maize yield in tropical Alfisols of Zaria, Nigeria

open access: yesScientific Reports
Sustainable crop production in tropical regions is challenged by poor soil fertility, necessitating effective soil amendment strategies. This study evaluated the temporal effects of five soil amendments—compost (CMP), biochar (BCH), co-composted biochar (

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

The optimization of going management on UK racecourses using controlled water applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Non-uniform surface rating (going) on a racecourse increases the potential for risk of injury to competing horses and their riders. Variability in soil type and strength are the primary cause of inconsistent going.

Achieving High‐Density and Stress‐Resilient Maize Breeding Via Germplasm Innovation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Global population growth and climate change have exacerbated the global food crisis. This perspective presents a conceptual framework focusing on enhancing population advantages. Several novel breeding objectives are proposed to improve density tolerance and stress resistance for yield improvement.
