Effects of Nitrogen Addition on Soil Microbial Biomass: A Meta-Analysis
Most studies about the effects of N addition on soil microbial biomass evaluate soil microbial and physicochemical characteristics using single-test methods, and these studies have not been integrated and analyzed to comprehensively assess the impact of ...

Fire severity influences the response of soil microbes to a boreal forest fire
Wildfire activity is projected to increase in boreal forests as a result of climate warming. The consequences of increased wildfire activity for soil carbon (C) storage in boreal forests may depend on the sensitivity of soil microbes to fire severity ...

Soil bacterial taxonomic diversity is critical to maintaining the plant productivity
Soil microbial communities play a central role in driving multiple ecosystem functions and ecological processes that are key to maintaining the plant productivity. However, we lack sound evidence for the linkage between soil microbial diversity and plant

Measurement of microbial biomass phosphorus in soil
A method for measuring the amount of P held in soil micro-organisms (biomass P) is described and the assumptions on which it is based are discussed. Biomass P is calculated from the difference between the amount of inorganic P (Pi) extracted by 0.5 (Spm) NaHCO3 (pH 8.5) from fresh soil fumigated with CHCl3 and the amount extracted from unfumigated soil.

The stoichiometry of soil microbial biomass determines metabolic quotient of nitrogen mineralization
Soil nitrogen (N) mineralization is crucial for the sustainability of available soil N and hence ecosystem productivity and functioning. Metabolic quotient of N mineralization ( Q _min ), which is defined as net soil N mineralization per unit of soil ...
