Results of an early intervention programme for patients with bacteraemia: analysis of prognostic factors and mortality

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2017
Background Bacteraemia is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in patients admitted to hospital. The aim of this study is to analyse the results of a two-year programme for the early optimisation of antibiotic treatment in patients admitted to the ...

Localized and Cellular Patterns in a Vibrated Granular Layer

open access: yes, 1997
We propose a phenomenological model for pattern formation in a vertically vibrated layer of granular material. This model exhibits a variety of stable cellular patterns including standing rolls and squares as well as localized objects (oscillons and ...

Sol, Tierra y Luna.

Electrically driven convection in a thin annular film undergoing circular Couette flow

open access: yes, 2000
We investigate the linear stability of a thin, suspended, annular film of conducting fluid with a voltage difference applied between its inner and outer edges. For a sufficiently large voltage, such a film is unstable to radially-driven electroconvection

Bio‐Inspired Nanoarchitected LiFePO4 Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is synthesized using a bio‐inspired method, using acidic macromolecules similar to those found in many calcareous mineralized organisms to modulate the morphology and crystal growth of LFP‐carbon composite particles. The observations from this process indicate a non‐classical crystallization process, which subsequently ...

open access: yesRevue Hybrides

Bistability of Slow and Fast Traveling Waves in Fluid Mixtures

open access: yes, 1997
The appearence of a new type of fast nonlinear traveling wave states in binary fluid convection with increasing Soret effect is elucidated and the parameter range of their bistability with the common slower ones is evaluated numerically.

Polyferrocene‐Based Cubosomes: Conversion to Magnetic Mesoporous Microparticles, Supramolecular Modification, and Oxidation Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyferrocene block copolymers are synthesized and assembled into micron‐sized polymer cubosomes with double diamond lattice and pore diameter of ≈30 nm. The ferrocene functionality is retained within the polymer cubosome wall as demonstrated on supramolecular modification, and oxidative disassembly.

Sol

open access: yes, 2021
