Genome‐wide association study identifies quantitative trait loci associated with resistance to Verticillium dahliae race 3 in tomato

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Verticillium wilt (VW) disease, caused by Verticillium dahliae Kleb., is a major threat to tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) production. Identifying loci associated with VW resistance can accelerate breeding efforts and support sustainable disease management. Although the Ve1 and Ve2 genes confer resistance to V.

Benefits, concerns, and sustainable alternatives to genetically modified crops from a global and Indian perspective

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract The global population, set to exceed 10 billion by 2050, presents enormous challenges to food, health, nutrition, energy, and environmental security. Plant breeding methods have continuously evolved to develop improved crop varieties to meet these demands.

A Unified Physically Based Model to Simulate Water and Carbohydrates Allocation Along the Soil‐Fruit Axis

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract The primary objective of modern crop management is to enhance fruit sweetness and size while maximizing water and fertilizer efficiency. This requires optimizing irrigation to regulate soil‐plant‐atmosphere interactions and water fluxes.

Lavandula angustifolia Essential Oil: GC–MS Composition, In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity, Vapor‐Phase Efficacy on Fruit and Vegetable Models, and Anti‐Escherichia coli Effect in Sous‐Vide Potatoes

open access: yesJournal of Food Safety, Volume 45, Issue 6, December 2025.
In‐depth investigation of the chemical and biological properties of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil. ABSTRACT This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil (LAEO) in vitro and in the vapor phase (in situ) against selected bacteria and yeasts, and against Escherichia coli in a sous‐vide potato model, while ...

NUDIX hydrolases target specific inositol pyrophosphates and regulate phosphate homeostasis and bacterial pathogen susceptibility in Arabidopsis

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 67, Issue 12, Page 3123-3151, December 2025.
NUDIX‐type hydrolase enzymes of subclade I and II preferentially target the inositol pyrophosphate messengers 4‐ and 3‐InsP7, respectively. Inactivation of subclade II NUDTs disrupts phosphate homeostasis and enhances bacterial resistance, revealing connections between defense and nutrient signaling.
