Species concepts and relationships in wild and cultivated potatoes [PDF]

open access: yes
Wild and cultivated potatoes (Solanum section Petota) present challenges to taxonomists arising from lack of clearly defined morphological character differences among many species, phenotypic plasticity, a range of ploidy levels from diploid to hexaploid,

Pathogenicity of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica on potato [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Host–parasite relationships and pathogenicity of Meloidogyne javanica on potatoes (newly recorded from Malta) were studied under glasshouse and natural conditions. Potato cvs Cara and Spunta showed a typical susceptible reaction to M. javanica under

Shortcutting photorespiration: avenues and challenges toward realizing higher‐yielding photorespiratory bypass crops

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Photorespiration is a major source of photosynthetic inefficiency in C3 crops. In photorespiration, the oxygenation rather than carboxylation of RuBP by Rubisco triggers an energy‐expensive pathway to recycle inhibitory byproducts and recapture lost carbon, ultimately reducing yields.

Biodegradation and decolorization of methylene blue, reactive Black-5, and toluidine blue-O from an aqueous solution using the polyphenol oxidase enzyme

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
In this study, a copper-containing polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzyme was extracted from the selected agricultural food products, i.e., Mangifera indica (L.), Solanum tuberosum (L.), and Luffa cylindrica (L.), which has efficiently degraded the azo dyes ...

Chlorogonoplasty ID nasionach i bulwach ziemniaka – Solarium tuberosum L. jako wskaźnik odporności na streptomykozy [The chlorogonoplasts in the seeds and tubers of potato – Solatium tuberosum L. as indicator of resistance to the streptomycosis]

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2015
Few varieties of Solanum tuberosum L. were investigated by histochemical methods. The dependence between the presence of the chlorogonoplasts and the resistance of the tested varieties to streptomycosis was found.

Rhizobium rhizogenes A4‐derived strains mediate hyper‐efficient transient gene expression in Nicotiana benthamiana and other solanaceous plants

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Agroinfiltration, a method utilizing agrobacteria to transfer DNA into plant cells, is widely used for transient gene expression in plants. Besides the commonly used Agrobacterium strains, Rhizobium rhizogenes can also introduce foreign DNA into host plants for gene expression. While many R. rhizogenes strains have been known for inducing hairy

The complete mitochondrial genome sequences of potato (Solanum tuberosum L., Solanaceae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2017
Potato (Solanum tuberosum) from the Solanaceae is the fourth most important food crop worldwide. In this study, five complete mitochondrial genome sequences of S. tuberosum were characterized through de novo assembly of whole genome sequencing data.
