Understanding bio‐based polymers: A study of origins, properties, biodegradation and their impact on health and the environment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review provides an overview of bio‐based polymer sources, their unique functional properties and their environmental impact, and addresses their role as sustainable alternatives. It discusses end‐of‐life options, including composting and anaerobic digestion for renewable energy.

Coronal magnetograms of solar active regions [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2004
A series of coronal magnetograms, related to the active region NOAA 9068 is derived using the effects of the quasi-transverse (QT-) propagation at microwaves. In the assumption that the product of the electron density N and the scale of magnetic divergence Ld is constant and equal to 10 18 cm −2 , the sensitivity of the measurements peaks at B(G) ≈ 180

Compressible Flow Exfoliation of Two‐Dimensional Nanomaterials: Insights Into Layer Separation Informed by Gas Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study elucidates the mechanism of compressible flow exfoliation for producing 2D hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN). Fluid dynamics analysis reveals that acceleration‐driven aerodynamic shear forces, rather than shock waves alone, drive effective layer separation.

Current Helicity and Twist as Two Indicators of The Mirror Asymmetry of solar Magnetic Fields

open access: yes, 2008
A comparison between the two tracers of magnetic field mirror asymmetry in solar active regions, twist and current helicity, is presented. It is shown that for individual active regions these tracers do not possess visible similarity while averaging by ...

Where Do Solar Storms Prefer to Originate From: Hemispheric and Longitudinal Patterns in Solar Cycles 23 and 24

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using synoptic maps, we analyzed the relationship between active longitudes, the most populated longitudes of energetic flares, the distribution of magnetically complex active regions, and the preferred locations of those that produced the largest flares.

Complex Network for Solar Active Regions [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2017
Abstract In this paper we developed a complex network of solar active regions (ARs) to study various local and global properties of the network. The values of the Hurst exponent (0.8–0.9) were evaluated by both the detrended fluctuation analysis and the rescaled range analysis applied on the time series of the AR numbers.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.

Light Bridges and Solar Active Region Evolution Processes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The formation mechanism of light bridges (LBs) is strongly related to the dynamic evolution of solar active regions (ARs). To study the relationship between LB formation and AR evolution phases, we employ 109 LB samples from 69 ARs in 2014 using ...
