Coronal mass ejections of solar cycle 23

Journal of Astrophysics and Astronomy, 2006
I summarize the statistical, physical, and morphological properties of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) of solar cycle 23, as observed by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) mission. The SOHO data is by far the most extensive data, which made it possible to fully establish the properties of CMEs as a phenomenon of utmost importance to Sun-Earth ...

On the origin of solar halo coronal mass ejections

Письма в астрономический журнал: Астрономия и космическая астрофизика, 2019
We present an investigation of halo coronal mass ejections (HCMEs) to understand the origin of HCMEs which is very important because HCMEs are regarded as main causes of heliospheric and geomagnetic disturbances. In this study, we have investigated 313 HCMEs observed during 1996–2012 by LASCO, coronal holes (CHs) and solar flares phenomena.

The launch of solar coronal mass ejections: Results from the coronal mass ejection onset program

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1990
We describe a set of solar coronal mass ejection (CME) events where coincident data sets from both X ray and white light instruments have been made available through deliberate planning. Using these we have been able to put tight limits on possible descriptions of the typical sequence of events, and these we relate to interpretations of models ...

Solar Storms, Coronal Mass Ejections, and Solar Shields

2021
If one were to survey the general public about serious concerns for the future, what would they say? Many of the answers would be predictable. Pandemics, climate change, and weapons of mass destruction would very likely head the list. Others with a broader perspective might mention asteroids and comets, genetic engineering, and pollution.

Solar Flares and Coronal Mass Ejections

Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1992
Attempts to clarify the nature of the terrestrial effects of solar activity and variability continue at an increasing pace. While mechanisms relating possible changes in terrestrial weather patterns to changes in solar lumin osity remain elusive, it has long been thought that intense geomagnetic storms and interplanetary disturbances can be traced ...
