Direct Evidence of the Hybrid Nature of Extreme-ultraviolet Waves and the Reflection of the Fast-mode Wave

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We performed an analysis of the extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) wave event on 2022 March 31. The event originated from active region (AR) 12975 located at N13W52 in the field of view of the Atmospheric imaging Assembly (AIA) and exactly at the west limb viewed

Alfven Wave Transmission and Heating of Solar Coronal Loops

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1998
We discuss the problem of wave transmission from the solar photosphere into coronal loops. We conclude that wave energy can be efficiently transmitted into loops with a sufficiently twisted magnetic field. The value of the required twist is below but close to the threshold for kink instability.

MHD simulations of coronal heating

open access: yes, 2015
The problem of heating the solar corona requires the conversion of magnetic energy into thermal energy. Presently, there are two promising mechanisms for heating the solar corona: wave heating and nanoflare heating.

Coronal Loop Heating By Discrete Alfvén Waves

open access: yes, 2015
We have modeled the solar coronal active loop heating by discrete Alfvén waves. Discrete Alfvén waves (DAW) are a new class of Alfvén waves which can be described by the two-fluid model with finite ion-cyclotron frequency, or the MHD model with plasma ...

On the topology of global coronal magnetic fields

open access: yes, 2014
This thesis considers the magnetic topology of the global solar corona. To understand the magnetic topology we use the magnetic skeleton which provides us with a robust description of the magnetic field.

Study on the Responses in the Transition Region of Coronal Extreme-ultraviolet Waves

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Coronal extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) waves are globally propagating disturbances in the solar atmosphere. The existence of coronal EUV waves was predicted by chromospheric Moreton–Ramsey waves.

Spatial magneto-seismology : effect of density stratification on the first harmonic amplitude profile of transversal coronal loop oscillations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Context. The new generation of extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) imagers onboard missions such as the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)and Solar Orbiter (SO) will provide the most accurate spatial measurements of post-flare coronal loop oscillations yet.

Development and application of a global magnetic field evolution model for the solar corona

open access: yes, 2009
Magnetic fields are fundamental to the structure and dynamics of the Sun’s corona. Observations show them to be locally complex, with highly sheared and twisted fields visible in solar filaments/prominences.

Modeling the Excitation, Propagation, and Damping of Quasiperiodic Fast Magnetosonic Waves in Realistic Coronal Active Region Magnetic Field Structures

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Quasiperiodic fast propagating (QFP) magnetosonic waves have been discovered in the solar corona in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) since the launch of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) spacecraft more than a decade ago.

Coupling of the solar wind, magnetosphere and ionosphere by MHD waves

open access: yes, 2012
The solar wind, magnetosphere and ionosphere are coupled by magnetohydrodynamic waves, and this gives rise to new and often unexpected behaviours that cannot be produced by a single, isolated part of the system.
