The solar wind heavy ion composition in the ascending phases of the solar cycles 23 and 25

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
The approximately 11-year solar cycle has been shown to impact the heavy ion composition of the solar wind, even when accounting for streams of differing speeds; however, the heavy ion composition observed between the same specific phases of a past solar

Life cycle assessment study of solar PV systems: An example of a 2.7kWp distributed solar PV system in Singapore

open access: yes, 2006
In life cycle assessment (LCA) of solar PV systems, energy pay back time (EPBT) is the commonly used indicator to justify its primary energy use. However, EPBT is a function of competing energy sources with which electricity from solar PV is compared ...

Directing Near‐Perfect (001) Orientation in Wafer‐Scale BiOI Thin Films via Halide‐Mediated van der Waals Stacking

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our work introduces a new framework that fundamentally changes how orientation in bismuth oxyhalide systems is approached. Comprehensive experiments, backed by theoretical models, reveal the pivotal role of halide anions to modify the van der Waals stacking energies required to direct orientation. Our method enables the fabrication of near perfect (001)

A New Declining Phase Precursor and an Early Prediction of Cycle 26 Maximum

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The overall level of solar activity as seen in the sunspot number (SSN) record paces both the state of the ionosphere and the amplitude and occurrence rates of extreme space weather events.

Global solar photospheric and coronal magnetic field over activity cycles 21–25

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate
The evolution of the global solar magnetic field from the beginning of cycle 21 (mid-1970s) until the currently-ascending cycle 25 is described using photospheric full-disk and synoptic magnetograms from NSO Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope (KPVT) 512-channel ...

Side‐Chain‐Induced Interlayer Slipping in Metalloporphyrin COFs Enables Microenvironment and Spin‐State Regulation for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Alkoxy chain length drives a continuous transition from eclipsed AA to a serrated, slipped AA* configuration over Co‐porphyrin COFs. A moderate slip both contracts the pore channel to enrich CO2 and suppress hydrogen evolution, and enhances collective high‐spin of Co sites, which delivers a record CO production rate with high selectivity.

Which Solar Latitude Follows the Sunspot Cycle Exactly?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The large-scale convection in the Sun known as supergranulation is manifested as a network structure on the solar surface. The network cells have an average lifetime of 24 hr, a size of about 30 Mm, and a lane width of about 6 Mm.

Hierarchical Flexible Ceramic Nanofiber Membrane for Simultaneous Membrane Distillation and Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical flexible ceramic nanofiber membrane integrates a La‐stabilized ZrO2 scaffold with superhydrophobic UiO‐66‐NH2/CdS heterojunctions. The gas–liquid–solid interfacial architecture sustains vapor‐selective desalination, visible‐light charge separation, and rapid H2 extraction, enabling simultaneous freshwater production and photocatalytic ...

The Occurrence of Powerful Flares Stronger than X10 Class in Solar Cycles

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Solar flares stronger than X10 (S-flares,  >X10) are the highest-class flares that significantly impact on the Sun's evolution and space weather. Based on observations of Geostationary Orbiting Environmental Satellites at soft X-ray wavelength and the ...
