Solar Magnetized "Tornadoes": Relation to Filaments [PDF]
Solar magnetized "tornadoes", a phenomenon discovered in the solar atmosphere, appear as tornado-like structures in the corona but root in the photosphere.

Falling Threads during Solar Filament Eruptions
Mass drainage is frequently observed in solar filaments. During filament eruptions, falling material most likely flows along magnetic field lines, which may provide important clues for the magnetic structures of filaments.

A dataset of manually annotated filaments from H-alpha observations [PDF]
We present the Manually Annotated GONG Filaments in H-alpha Observations (MAGFiLO v1.0) dataset. This dataset contains 10,244 annotated filaments from 1,593 observations captured by the Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG), spanning the years 2011 ...

Automatic detection and tracking of filaments for a solar feature database [PDF]
A new method for the automatic detection and tracking of solar filaments is presented. The method addresses the problems facing existing catalogs, such as the one developed recently in the frame of the European Grid of Solar Observations (EGSO ...

Proper Motion of Solar Filaments [PDF]
Precise measurements of heliographic position of solar filaments were used for describing the proper motion of solar filaments on the time-scale of one day. Only the velocity values more accurate than 100 m s−1 were used for the study. The filaments have a tendency to make a shaking or waving of the external structure and also to make a general ...

Where Do Solar Filaments Form? [PDF]
AbstractIn the present study, we consider where large, stable solar filaments form relative to underlying magnetic polarities. We find that 92% of all large stable filaments form in magnetic configurations involving the interaction of two or more bipoles. Only 7% form above the Polarity Inversion Line (PIL) of a single bipole. This indicates that a key

With over 100 yr of solar observations, the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory (KoSO) is a one-of-a-kind solar data repository in the world. Among its many data catalogs, the “suncharts” at KoSO are of particular interest.

SWAYING THREADS OF A SOLAR FILAMENT [PDF]
From recent high resolution observations obtained with the Swedish 1 m Solar Telescope in La Palma, we detect swaying motions of individual filament threads in the plane of the sky. The oscillatory character of these motions are comparable with oscillatory Doppler signals obtained from corresponding filament threads.

Magnetic Twists of Solar Filaments [PDF]
Abstract Solar filaments are cold and dense materials situated in magnetic dips, which show distinct radiation characteristics compared to the surrounding coronal plasma. They are associated with coronal sheared and twisted magnetic field lines.
