Theoretical Models of Sunspot Structure and Dynamics

open access: yes, 2009
Recent progress in theoretical modeling of a sunspot is reviewed. The observed properties of umbral dots are well reproduced by realistic simulations of magnetoconvection in a vertical, monolithic magnetic field.

Formation of an Intermediate Filament Driven by Small-scale Magnetic Reconnection

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present the formation process of a filament in NOAA active region 12765 from 2020 June 5 to 8, using observations from the New Vacuum Solar Telescope, the Solar Dynamics Observatory, and the Global Oscillation Network Group. We found that intermittent

Collective Study of Polar Crown Filaments in the Past Four Solar Cycles

open access: yes, 2018
Polar Crown Filaments (PCFs) form above the magnetic polarity inversion line, which separates the unipolar polar fields and the nearest dispersed fields from trailing part of active regions with opposite polarity.

Filament Shape Versus Coronal Potential Magnetic Field Structure

open access: yes, 2015
Solar filament shape in projection on disc depends on the structure of the coronal magnetic field. We calculate the position of polarity inversion lines (PILs) of coronal potential magnetic field at different heights above the photosphere, which compose ...

Sigmoid Formation, Filament Destabilization, and Initiation of Weak Flare by Tether Cutting Reconnection

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We have studied a B-class solar flare and an associated filament eruption through multiwavelength observations. The flare is triggered at 16:24 UT on 2017 June 7 from Active Region(AR) 12661, and it maximizes at 16:54 UT.
