The aim of solar polarimetry is to measure the Stokes vector I (the four Stokes parameters I, Q, U, and V) with the highest possible polarimetric accuracy, spectral, spatial, and time resolution, and spectral and spatial coverage. As it is not possible to optimize all these parameters simultaneously, various combinations of trade-offs are needed.
