Generation of Solar-like Differential Rotation
Abstract We analyze the simulation result shown in Hotta & Kusano (2021) in which the solar-like differential rotation is reproduced. The Sun is rotating differentially with the fast equator and the slow pole. It is widely thought that the thermal convection maintains the differential rotation, but recent high-resolution simulations ...

Evidence of a Quasiperiodic Global-scale Oscillation in the Near-surface Shear Layer of the Sun
We present evidence of hitherto undiscovered global-scale oscillations in the near-surface shear layer of the Sun. These oscillations are seen as large-scale variations of radial shear in both the zonal and meridional flows relative to their mean values.

Anti‐solar differential rotation
AbstractThe differential rotation of anti‐solar type detected by observations for several stars may result from a fast meridional flow. The sufficiently intensive meridional circulation may be caused by large‐scale thermal inhomogeneities or, perhaps, by tidal forcing from a companion star.

Earth's Rotation and Solar Activity [PDF]
Summary The 11-yr signal in the variation of length of day has been successfully identified and significantly linked to solar activity. A physical mechanism involving meteorological and oceanic variation is proposed.

The mechanism of magnetic flux rope rotation during solar eruption
Solar eruptions often show the rotation of filaments, which is a manifestation of the rotation of erupting magnetic flux rope (MFR). Such a rotation of MFR can be induced by either the torque exerted by a background shear-field component (which is an ...

The Rotation Of The Deep Solar Layers
From the analysis of low-order GOLF+MDI sectoral modes and LOWL data (l > 3), we derive the solar radial rotation profile assuming no latitudinal dependance in the solar core.

Changes in Solar Rotation over Two Solar Cycles [PDF]
Abstract We use helioseismic data from ground- and space-based instruments to analyze how solar rotation has changed since the beginning of solar Cycle 23 with emphasis on studying the differences between Cycles 23 and 24. We find that the nature of solar rotation is indeed different for the two cycles.

The 27-Day Oscillation in Ionospheric Total Electron Content Observed by GNSS
The 27-day oscillation in total electron content (TEC) is analysed by means of world maps of TEC. The TEC maps are derived from measurements of the ground receiver network of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and are provided by the ...

The study of solar rotation using the Doppler effect in solar spectrum lines continues to be an active and fruitful area of research. Duvall (1982) has confirmed a slower rotation rate for the photosphere than for sunspots, which bears on an earlier controversy regarding this point between the Stanford Solar Observatory and some other observatories ...
