Evidence of a Quasiperiodic Global-scale Oscillation in the Near-surface Shear Layer of the Sun

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We present evidence of hitherto undiscovered global-scale oscillations in the near-surface shear layer of the Sun. These oscillations are seen as large-scale variations of radial shear in both the zonal and meridional flows relative to their mean values.

Discrepant responses of the global electron content to the solar cycle and solar rotation variations of EUV irradiance

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2015
In this paper, the responses of the ionosphere to the solar cycle and solar rotation variations of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) irradiance are comparatively investigated using daily mean global electron content (GEC) and 0.1–50 nm EUV daily flux.

Rotation Angle for the Optimum Tracking of One-Axis Trackers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An equation for the rotation angle for optimum tracking of one-axis trackers is derived along with equations giving the relationships between the rotation angle and the surface tilt and azimuth angles.

On Differential Rotation and Overshooting in Solar-like Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We seek to characterize how the change of global rotation rate influences the overall dynamics and large-scale flows arising in the convective envelopes of stars covering stellar spectral types from early G to late K.

The 27-Day Oscillation in Ionospheric Total Electron Content Observed by GNSS

open access: yesAtmosphere
The 27-day oscillation in total electron content (TEC) is analysed by means of world maps of TEC. The TEC maps are derived from measurements of the ground receiver network of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and are provided by the ...

The Relative Position of the Solar Magnetic Dipole Axis and Rotation Axis of the Sun

open access: yesGalaxies
We estimated the relative location of the solar rotation axis and the magnetic axis of the solar dipole, which were defined as centers of polar coronal holes.

The mechanism of magnetic flux rope rotation during solar eruption

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
Solar eruptions often show the rotation of filaments, which is a manifestation of the rotation of erupting magnetic flux rope (MFR). Such a rotation of MFR can be induced by either the torque exerted by a background shear-field component (which is an ...

ROTATION PERIODS FOR COOL STARS IN THE 4 Gyr OLD OPEN CLUSTER M67, THE SOLAR–STELLAR CONNECTION, AND THE APPLICABILITY OF GYROCHRONOLOGY TO AT LEAST SOLAR AGE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We report rotation periods for 20 cool (FGK) main sequence member stars of the 4 Gyr-old open cluster M67 (=NGC 2682), obtained by analyzing data from Campaign 5 of the K2 mission with the Kepler Space Telescope. The rotation periods delineate a sequence

Anti‐solar differential rotation

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, 2004
AbstractThe differential rotation of anti‐solar type detected by observations for several stars may result from a fast meridional flow. The sufficiently intensive meridional circulation may be caused by large‐scale thermal inhomogeneities or, perhaps, by tidal forcing from a companion star.
