Beyond the Individual: Multisite Population‐Level Consequences of Road Mortality on a Declining Mammal

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We used a comparative study design to quantify population densities, structure, survival, cause‐specific mortality and female productivity in four West‐European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) populations, and to forecast the impact of road mortality on population viability.

TRPM3 regulates fear memory encoding and seizure susceptibility in the lateral amygdala

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and purpose TRPM3 is best known for its role as a peripheral sensor of pain and heat. Recent studies reporting gain‐of‐function TRPM3 mutations in patients with neurodevelopmental and epilepsy‐associated disorders suggest a previously unrecognized role of this channel in the brain.

Tin Sensitization in Belgium and the Netherlands: Complementary Findings From Two Independent Retrospective Studies

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
In retrospective studies the prevalence of tin sensitization and its clinical relevance was evaluated in two groups: consecutive patients and patients suspected of metal allergies. The prevalence was higher than previously reported and relevance could be established for ~30%.

Gold and Nickel Release From Jeweller‐Purchased 10K and 14K Gold Earrings in Cysteine‐Modified Artificial Sweat

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
Even expensive 10K and 14K gold earrings released measurable gold in cysteine‐modified artificial sweat, despite no detectable nickel. Surface gold content did not predict release, challenging assumptions that higher gold content means lower exposure. ABSTRACT Background Gold contact allergy is common, but its clinical relevance is often uncertain.
