Nascent Extracellular Matrix Converts Biomaterial Cues into Cell Fate Decisions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a tri‐directional interplay among cells, hydrogels, and their nascent extracellular matrix. Hydrogel norbornene modification alters CD44‐mediated cell–hydrogel interactions, which shape nascent matrix deposition, composition, and spatial organization.

Ultralow‐Energy Analog Reservoir Computing via Reconfigurable 2‐Transistor Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a reconfigurable reservoir‐computing platform based on an oxide InSnZnO two‐transistor cell in which a hold bias selects volatile relaxation for the reservoir or quasi‐non‐volatile multilevel storage for the readout. Multi‐level hold‐bias kernel tune relaxation currents to generate diverse time constants, enriching reservoir states ...

Yield stability in barley-wheat mixed cropping in Central Highlands of Eritrea

open access: yes, 2008
Yield data of a large set of experiments with barley and wheat were analysed in order to assess whether yield stability was greater in mixed cropping than in sole cropping, and to identify which varietal mixture showed most stable grain yields.

A Scalable Droplet Microfluidic Platform That Overcomes Large‐Cell Constraints for Long‐Term Plant Cell Culture and Embryogenesis Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a large‐cell‐compatible droplet microfluidic platform that overcomes long‐standing barriers in plant cell culture by enabling high‐fidelity encapsulation, novel multilayer 3D droplet incubation for scalable long‐term culture, and support for the full developmental progression of large plant cells.

Curvature‐Directed Elongation and Chiral Tilting Drive Asymmetric Tissue Patterning

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Curvature and cell handedness together break tissue symmetry. On convex and concave surfaces, cells elongate along opposite geometric axes and tilt in a consistent chirality‐driven direction, yielding opposite alignment patterns from the same cells. Reversing intrinsic cell chirality reverses both.

Large Electrostrain and High Optical Transmittance via Oxygen Octahedron Rotation Disordering in KNN Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chemical disorder engineering reconfigures BO6 oxygen‐octahedron rotations in lead‐free K0.5Na0.5NbO3 ceramics from local ordering into a random distribution, dissolving the longstanding trade‐off between optical transparency and electromechanical strain.

Optimized Land–Water Management Expands Afforestation Potential Under Land and Human Water‐Use Constraints

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human water demand constrains China's feasible afforestation potential more strongly than is commonly recognized, and future climate change further intensifies this limitation. Integrating land‐use optimization with water‐saving measures substantially expands feasible afforestation area and associated carbon sinks, revealing a practical pathway to ...

Comparison of Risk Between Cropping Systems in Eastern Norway [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of this study was to compare production and policy risk of organic, integrated and conventional cropping systems in Norway. Experimental cropping system data (1991-1999) from eastern Norway were combined with budgeted data.

Metal–Phenolic Complexation Governs Soil Mineral Crystallinity to Enhance Crop Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A coordination‐driven, coprecipitation approach is presented to obtain polyphenolic‐incorporated minerals with tunable crystallinity, offering insights into how plants may influence soil mineral structures. Soil minerals can incorporate polyphenolic secondary metabolites and enhance plant nutrition by facilitating the formation of amorphous metal ...

Rhizodeposition Drives One Third of Belowground Carbon Input in Agroecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study quantifies photosynthesized C allocation in the plant–soil system across six crop types: barley, wheat, maize, rice, legumes and grasses. It reports C partitioning into shoot respiration, shoot‐C, root‐C, net rhizodeposition and root‐derived CO2, providing standardized percentage averages and GPP‐derived absolute values as a robust baseline ...
