Artificial structures for human‐machine interfaces with closed‐loop interaction

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Artificial structures bridge sensing and feedback in closed‐loop human‐machine interfaces by providing geometry‐enabled mechanical and functional programmability. This review maps the role of artificial structures in diverse sensing modalities and feedback strategies, and illustrates their integration into closed‐loop interaction systems, highlighting ...

The large superconducting solenoids for the g-2 muon storage ring [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The g-2 muon storage ring at Brookhaven National Laboratory consists of four large superconducting solenoids. The two outer solenoids, which are 15.1 meters in diameter, share a common cryostat. The two inner solenoids, which are 13.4 meters in diameter,

Multi-objective optimization design of low-power-driven, large-flux, and fast-response three-stage valve

open access: yesScientific Reports
Intrinsically safe solenoids drive solenoid valves in coal mining equipment. The low power consumption of these solenoids limits the response time of the solenoid valves.

Electron cloud observations and cures in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2008
Since 2001, the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has experienced electron cloud effects, some of which have limited the beam intensity. These include dynamic pressure rises (including pressure instabilities), tune shifts, a reduction of the instability ...

Variable Rate Irrigation: A Long‐Term Simulated and Field Data Analyses of Irrigation Practices, Field Variability, Economic Feasibility and Profitability

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Long‐term economic analyses of variable rate irrigation (VRI) strategies were performed compared with uniform irrigation management (UIM) in a reference production field using the AquaCrop model. Five strategies to trigger irrigation were as follows: (Field Capacity‐VRI, Driest Soil Trigger‐VRI, Water Mining‐VRI, Conventional Uniform ...

Droplet size spectrum, velocity, angle and flow rate of pulse‐width‐modulated spray nozzles with adjuvants

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Optimizing PWM performance requires not only appropriate duty cycle selection, but also careful choice of adjuvant formulation tailored to each nozzle type. Drift control agents increased droplet size and reduced fine droplets, mitigating PWM‐induced variability. Decreasing the duty cycle consistently narrowed the spray angle.
