How to Chemically Protect PFAS‐Free Membranes in Fuel Cells: Radical Quenching Poly(vinylphosphonic acid) Layer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrocarbon membranes are a greener alternative to PFSA in PEM fuel cells, but degrade rapidly from radical attack. We present a novel strategy using poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA) as a local radical scavenger. Incorporated as an interfacial barrier, PVPA enhances chemical stability and significantly extends membrane lifetime under accelerated ...

Solid-state circuit breakers in DC distribution networks

open access: yes, 2020
The design and development of two direct current (DC) solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs) for use in low voltage DC distribution systems were examined. Both SSCBs utilized the isolated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) and were developed for low current applications of under 20 A. The approach was documented to show the advancement of IGBT technology and

Modified half-bridge modular multilevel converter for HVDC systems with DC fault ride-through capability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
One of the main challenges of voltage source converter based HVDC systems is DC faults. In this paper, two different modified half-bridge modular multilevel converter topologies are proposed.

Conductance‐Dependent Photoresponse in a Dynamic SrTiO3 Memristor for Biorealistic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A nanoscale SrTiO3 memristor is shown to exhibit dynamic synaptic behavior through the interaction of local electrical and global optical signals. Its photoresponse depends quantitatively on the conductance state, which evolves and decays over tunable timescales, enabling ultralow‐power, biorealistic learning mechanisms for advanced in‐memory and ...

Logic-controlled solid state switchgear for 270 volts dc [PDF]

open access: yes
A feasibility study to design and demonstrate solid state switchgear in the form of circuit breakers and a power transfer switch is described. The switchgear operates on a nominal 270 V dc circuit and controls power to a load of up to 15 amperes.

Magnetism and Nonlinear Charge Transport in NiFe2O4/γ‐Al2O3/SrTiO3 Heterostructure: Toward Spintronic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this report, we demonstrate that a crystalline phase of 52nm thick NiFe2O4 can be grown by RF sputtering on top of γ‐Al2O3(8nm)/SrTiO3 at a significantly low temperature (150 °C) without compromising the mobility and carrier density of the 2D electron gas at the γ‐Al2O3(8nm)/SrTiO3 interface.

Novel current-limiting strategy for solid-state circuit breakers (SSCB) without additional impedance [PDF]

open access: yes
Current-limiting strategies for solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) without adding impedance is introduced in this paper. With the current limitation of novel phase-shifting method, the advantages are simple hardware structure, relatively low cost, no ...
