High Gain Effects for Solid-State Impact-Ionization Multipliers

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 2006
We report the demonstration of a current amplification device, built from silicon and based on impact ionization, which can be cascaded to achieve very high gains. Arbitrary current sources including photodiodes can be interfaced with this device. Testing was done by amplifying the output signal from an independent silicon photodiode.

Gain media phase conjugators and self-adaptive solid-state lasers

1994 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1994
A presentation is made of recent work in 3-D saturable gain-gratings, produced by spatial hole-burning, as efficient, externally programmable and/or self-adaptive diffractive optical elements for application in gain-media phase conjugators and as a technology for versatile adaptive spatial, spectral, and Q-switching control of high-gain solid-state ...

Biallelic TP53 gain of function mutations in rapidly progressing solid tumors

Cancer Genetics, 2018
Recent studies are discovering TP53 mutations with gain of function (GOF) properties that promote tumorigenesis via a variety of mechanisms. To our knowledge, all reported compound mutations are allelic. We identified two patients with biallelic GOF TP53 mutations in their tumors and a third with allelic compound variants.

Stimulated radiative dissociation and gain measurements of Xe2Cl in solid xenon

Chemical Physics Letters, 1987
The molecular charge transfer states of Cl-doped solid xenon form an ideal four-level laser system. UV excitation on the molecular XeCl (B+X) pair potentials leads to the formation of the diatomic exciplex which relaxes with a nearly unity quantum yield to the triatomic Xe,’ Cl- (4 ‘F ) state. The radiative dissociation of the triatomic exciplex can be

Stable high-gain sensitive avalanche solid-state photomultipliers

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 1982
The development of lasers has stimulated the appearance of new technical fields such as optical communications, laser location, optoelectronic computers, and information systems. For all these fields the primary problem is detecting short (tens of nanoseconds and shorter) weak (hundreds, tens of photons) light pulses. Today this problem is being solved

Early 2017 data show solid gains in donations

Nonprofit Business Advisor, 2018
According to an early look at charitable giving data for 2017, total giving in the United States grew by about 4.1 percent, thanks to a strong stock market, spikes in giving in response to political issues, a continued shift to digital giving and a strong finish in the final few months of the year. Those findings, detailed in the 2017 Charitable Giving

How to optimize gain in solid-state dielectric media

2005
At the beginning of what some people believe will become the "century of the photon" we are still struggling with the problem that stands at the beginning of the "world of photonics" - the generation of light in an appropriate and efficient way. This presentation focuses on coherent light generation in dielectric crystals and glasses activated by rare ...
