The optical gain mechanism in solid conjugated polymers

Applied Physics Letters, 1998
We report on stimulated emission from a solid conjugated methyl-substituted ladder-type poly(paraphenylene). The threshold for stimulated emission as well as the spectral narrowing is measured. Upon exciting within the low energy tail of the S1-S0 (0–0) absorption band narrow emission lines offset from the excitation by the energies of the dominant ...

Optical characterization of tunable solid-state laser gain media

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 1990
The transition metal ions are optical centres that promise tunable laser operation at room temperature over much of the visible and near-infrared regions. This review presents the essential characteristics used in optical assessment of possible laser-active solids and some of the theory required to understand the experimental results. Also presented is

Gain media phase conjugators and self-adaptive solid-state lasers

1994 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1994
A presentation is made of recent work in 3-D saturable gain-gratings, produced by spatial hole-burning, as efficient, externally programmable and/or self-adaptive diffractive optical elements for application in gain-media phase conjugators and as a technology for versatile adaptive spatial, spectral, and Q-switching control of high-gain solid-state ...

High Gain Effects for Solid-State Impact-Ionization Multipliers

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 2006
We report the demonstration of a current amplification device, built from silicon and based on impact ionization, which can be cascaded to achieve very high gains. Arbitrary current sources including photodiodes can be interfaced with this device. Testing was done by amplifying the output signal from an independent silicon photodiode.

Parasitic oscillation suppression in high-gain solid-state amplifiers

Laser Physics, 2013
A method has been proposed for suppressing parasitic oscillation by processing the gain medium edges into arrises. The mode analysis indicates that the residual reflection at the gain medium edges decreases greatly and the required index matching level and the required cladding absorbency are reduced as well.

TeO2: Solid-State SBS Material with Exceptionally High Gain

Advanced Solid-State Photonics (TOPS), 2004
We observe very low threshold phase conjugation by stimulated Brillouin scattering in crystalline TeO2. The resulting steady-state gain parameter, 100 cm/GW, is to our knowledge the largest ever reported for a solid-state material.

Influence of Gain Broadening for Solid Laser Output Power

2010 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics, 2010
The output power of solid pulse laser drops as time increases, theoretical analysis is carried out from gain bandwidth for this kind of phenomenon. The normalization output power analytical model is deduced under homogeneous broadening condition, and numerical calculation and analysis is carried out, the result shows that, the widen of gain bandwidth ...

On electromagnetic gain mechanisms in solid-state plasmas

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1967
The question of the existence of distributed gain mechanisms in solid-state plasmas is discussed. It is concluded that such plasmas may be active, i.e., capable of transferring net energy to electromagnetic waves, even though these waves are stable in the sense that they do not grow spatially.

Tunable solid-state lasers incorporating dye-doped, polymer– nanoparticle gain media

Optics Letters, 2003
Tunable laser action in the visible spectrum has been established for what is believed to be the first time by use of dye-doped, polymer-silica nanoparticle gain media. The silica nanoparticles, ranging from 9 to 12 nm in diameter, appear to be uniformly dispersed in the poly(methyl methacrylate) matrix because the optical homogeneity of the gain ...

Ultrahigh-gain bulk solid-state stimulated Brillouin scattering phase-conjugation material

Optics Letters, 2004
We report what is believed to be the first observation of phase conjugation by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in TeO2 single crystal. The observed very low threshold for phase-conjugate mirror (PCM) formation, high PCM reflectivities in this initial experiment, and commercial availability of material hold promise for a host of practical ...
