Intertwined electronic and magnetic structure of the van-der-Waals antiferromagnet Fe2P2S6

open access: yesnpj Quantum Materials, 2023
Many unusual and promising properties have been reported recently for the transition metal trichalcogenides of the type MPS3 (M = V, Mn, Fe, Ni ...), such as maintaining magnetic order to the atomically thin limit, ultra-sharp many-body excitons, metal ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Real-time tracking of coherent oscillations of electrons in a nanodevice by photo-assisted tunnelling

open access: yesNature Communications
Coherent collective oscillations of electrons excited in metallic nanostructures (localized surface plasmons) can confine incident light to atomic scales and enable strong light-matter interactions, which depend nonlinearly on the local field.

Relationship between the Structure and Properties of Pharmaceutical Crystals

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
The majority of drug products are solid dosage forms, most of which contain the drug substance in the crystalline state. This review considers the forces responsible for crystal packing, the various types of ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Nanobubbles in Solid-State Nanopores

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2006
From conductance and noise studies, we infer that nanometer-sized gaseous bubbles (nanobubbles) are the dominant noise source in solid-state nanopores. We study the ionic conductance through solid-state nanopores as they are moved through the focus of an infrared laser beam.

Ca4Fe3-xMnxO8-delta Cl2: A new n=3 Ruddlesden-Popper oxychloride

open access: yes, 2010
Solid state solutions of Ca4Fe3-xMnxO8-delta Cl2 (0 92 <= x <= 1.79 (delta similar to 0.1) single crystals were synthesized in CaCl2-flux in air.

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics
