Process Optimization, Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of SiC + TiB2/AlSi10Mg Composites Fabricated by Laser-Directed Energy Deposition

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
In this study, TiB2/AlSi10Mg, 2 wt.% SiC + TiB2/AlSi10Mg, and 5 wt.% SiC + TiB2/AlSi10Mg composite powders were prepared via high-energy ball milling.

Assessment of the effect of 3D printed sand mold thickness on solidification process of AlSi13 casting alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The present work addresses the printed sand mold thickness effect on the solidification process of a eutectic aluminum-silicon alloy (AlSi13). Several sandmold thicknesses (varying from 3 to 30mm) are numerically studied using Quikcast®software.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Segregation-dislocation self-organized structures ductilize a work-hardened medium entropy alloy

open access: yesNature Communications
Dislocations are the intrinsic origin of crystal plasticity. However, initial high-density dislocations in work-hardened materials are commonly asserted to be detrimental to ductility according to textbook strengthening theory.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effects of microstructure on high cycle fatigue properties of dual-phase Ti alloy: combined nonlocal CPFE simulations and extreme value statistics

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
The nonlocal crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) simulations and extreme value statistics were combined to study the effects of microstructure on the high cycle fatigue (HCF) behavior of dual-phase Ti alloy.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A Real-Time Method to Detect the Deformation Behavior during Laser Solid Forming of Thin-Wall Structure

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Laser solid forming (LSF) is a promising additive manufacturing technology. In the LSF process, deformation behaviors dictate the accuracy of the produced parts. In this study, by using a laser displacement detector based on laser triangulation principle,

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
