Large amplitude solitary waves in and near the Earth’s magnetosphere, magnetopause and bow shock: Polar and Cluster observations [PDF]
Solitary waves with large electric fields (up to 100's of mV/m) have been observed throughout the magnetosphere and in the bow shock. We discuss observations by Polar at high altitudes ( ~ 4-8 RE ), during crossings of the plasma sheet boundary and ...

ABSTRACT Piezocatalytic hydrogen evolution enables the conversion of mechanical energy into chemical fuels, but its efficiency is constrained by a trade‐off between piezoelectric polarization and electronic conductivity. Strong piezoelectric polarization is essential for sufficient driving force, yet highly polar materials typically suffer from poor ...

Description of the inelastic collision of two solitary waves for the BBM equation
We prove that the collision of two solitary waves of the BBM equation is inelastic but almost elastic in the case where one solitary wave is small in the energy space. We show precise estimates of the nonzero residue due to the collision.

Chemically Doped Conductive Polymers for Wearable Health Monitoring
Among conductive polymers, poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), polyaniline (PANI), and polypyrrole (PPy) are the most studied and applied. Chemical doping significantly boosts intrinsic conductivity and mechanical robustness.

The Sabatier principle and volcano plots declare that optimal electrocatalysis is found in the middle between strong and weak binding of key intermediates. However, it is shown here that during anion electroreduction, strong and weak binding are potential‐dependent concepts and volcanoes are mobile.

The solitary wave of asexual evolution [PDF]
Using a previously undescribed approach, we develop an analytic model that predicts whether an asexual population accumulates advantageous or deleterious mutations over time and the rate at which either process occurs. The model considers a large number of linked identical loci, or nucleotide sites; assumes that the selection coefficient per site is ...

A Negatively Curved Pyrene‐Fused Azaacene
A pyrene‐fused azaacene derivative is reported in which steric overcrowding caused by eight phenyl substituents induces bending of the aromatic framework rather than twisting. ABSTRACT Non‐planar aromatic hydrocarbons display distorted π‐frameworks that give rise to unique optoelectronic properties.

Electrostatic Solitary Waves in Earth's Magnetosheath: Properties, Nature, and Origin
We present the analysis of 2,152 electrostatic solitary waves observed aboard the Magnetospheric Multiscale in the Earth's magnetosheath. The electric field of the solitary waves is predominantly bipolar and parallel to the local magnetic field.
