Distribution and segregation of solute in Al2O3 short fiber reinforced Al-5%Cu alloy containing La by squeeze casting [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2007
Al2O3 short fiber reinforced La-bearing Al-5%Cu alloy was fabricated by squeeze casting, and the solidified structure and the solute segregation during alloy solidification were studied.

Grain coarsening inhibited by solute segregation

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2002
It will be shown that grain boundaries are in a metastable thermodynamic equilibrium in the presence of solute atoms and, therefore, grain coarsening is stopped as there is no driving force. This is in contradiction to a generally accepted interpretation, where solute drag, i.e. zero mobility of the boundaries, stops grain coarsening.

Beyond Activity: The Unified Framework of the Sabatier Principle to Guide Rational Design of Durable and Active Electrocatalysts

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
In this review, a unified framework of the Sabatier principle is applied to a diverse range of catalytic and electrocatalytic systems for advanced clean energy technologies, with a particular focus on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). This approach will guide the design and development of highly active and stable catalysts for fuel cells ...

Predicting grain boundary segregation in magnesium alloys: An atomistically informed machine learning approach

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
Grain boundary (GB) segregation substantially influences the mechanical properties and performance of magnesium (Mg). Atomic-scale modeling, typically using ab-initio or semi-empirical approaches, has mainly focused on GB segregation at highly symmetric ...

Review of CFD modelling techniques for single‐phase and multiphase flow in static mixers

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approaches for static mixers, linking hydrodynamics to pressure drop, particle/droplet distributions, mixing metrics, and heat‐transfer performance to guide modelling choices and design decisions. Abstract Static mixers enable compact and low‐energy intensification.

A Review of Grain Boundaries: Formation Mechanism, Synthesis Strategy, and Application in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
An overview of grain boundary engineering in the field of electrocatalysis. ABSTRACT Key electrocatalytic reactions such as HER, OER, ORR, CO2RR, and NRR offer promising routes for storing renewable energy as chemical fuels. However, their widespread application is constrained due to the lack of highly active and stable catalysts. Grain boundaries (GBs)

Nanofiber PVA‐Based Membranes Incorporating Functionalized Spanish Broom Derivatives for Sustainable Water Purification

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study investigates Spanish broom (Spartium junceum) as a renewable source for electrospun composite membranes in sustainable water purification. MCC and biochar were functionalized with eco‐friendly precursors and nanomaterials (i.e., HNT, β‐CDs) to develop hybrid PVA nanofiber composites.

Charting Water‐in‐Natural‐Salt (WiNS) Electrolytes. Part I: Effect of Anion's Alkyl Tail Length

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
At 20 m, potassium carboxylates from formate to butyrate reveal anion tail‐controlled nanostructure. SAXS shows a pre‐peak shifting to lower q with chain length. Molecular dynamics reproduces S(q) and attributes it to concentration fluctuations forming bicontinuous segregation.

Three Birds with One Stone: High‐Performance 2D Lead‐Free Perovskite Solar Cells via Direct In Situ Generation of Organic‐Spacer Precursors

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Adopting a “three birds with one stone” strategy, the in situ generation of organic spacer simultaneously addresses three major challenges limiting 2D tin‐based perovskites: (1) Sn2+ oxidation; (2) rapid crystallization; and (3) uncontrolled 2D phase distribution.
