In Praise of the No-Solution Solution

open access: yesJournal of Political Sciences & Public Affairs, 2015
In order to enable systematic analyses of the numerous solutions to the Arab-Israeli conflict this study presents a model that maps them into a general typology along the continuum between the poles of Arab dominance over the country and Israeli dominance.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

An Asymmetric Kalai-Smorodinsky Solution [PDF]

open access: yes
In 1972, Harsanyi and Selten characterized a one parameter asymmetric Nash solution. In this note I do the analog for the Kalai-Smorodinsky solution. By dropping symmetry and adding a restrivted version of Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives to the ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Monte Carlo Solution to the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov Equation for Resummation in Perturbative QCD

open access: yes, 2007
A simple solution to the BFKL equation is obtained as a series in the number of real gluons emitted with transverse momentum greater than some small cutoff ¯. This solution reveals physics inside the BFKL ladder which is hidden in the standard inclusive

Generation of Solution Plasma for Surface Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Solution plasma has been generated in ultrasonic bubbles with new-type electrodes by supplying alternative power. We found solution plasma can be generated in various solvents by applying this technique.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Solution-focused work in individual academic development

open access: yes, 2006
There is one account in the literature of the application of a solution-focused approach to individual teaching development at university level (Devlin, 2003). The solution-focused approach is based on solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT).

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Ferric Chloride Complexes in Aqueous Solution: An EXAFS Study

open access: yes, 2018
A series of concentrated aqueous solutions of ferric chloride with different chloride:iron(III) ratios has been studied by means of EXAFS to determine the structure around the iron(III) ion of the dominating species in such solutions.
