Solvatochromism of dyes. Part III. Solvatochromism of merocyanines in some binary mixtures of solvents.SA-SAB-SB, a new model of solvatochromism

Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry, 1997
A quantitative model of solvatochromism in a binary solvent system is presented. Although it is derived for merocyanine and betaine dyes, it explains a majority of known examples of solvatochromism in binary solvents. The model provides an estimation of equilibrium constants between particular types of solvates present therein.

Solvatochromism of some hemicyanines

Journal of Molecular Liquids, 2013
Abstract Solvatochromism of some hemicyanines dyes ( N -alkyl (methyl, hexyl and hexadecyl)-4-[(4- N , N -dimethylamino)styryl] pyridinium halides in 28 organic solvents has been investigated by using absorption and emission spectroscopy. The probes have inbuilt donor–acceptor system and the corresponding charge transfer bands are found to be solvent

Solvatochromic rotaxane molecular shuttles

Chemical Communications, 2011
A strongly fluorescent bistable rotaxane is described in which the relative position of the macrocyclic ring with respect to a solvatochromic fluorophore gives a strong response in the spectral domain.

Solvatochromism of pyranine-derived photoacids

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2013
Photoacidity is frequently found in aromatic alcohols where the equilibrium dissociation constant increases by some orders of magnitude upon electronic excitation. In this study we investigated the solvatochromism of a family of recently synthesized super-photoacids and their methylated counterparts based on pyrene.
