PHYSIOLOGIC EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL SOLVENTS

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1949
A glance at the stock shelves of any neighborhood store, even in a small town, shows that chemicals are playing an increasingly important part in our daily life. The grocer sells synthetic detergents; the hardware store, paints, laquers, paint and stain removers; the drugstore, insecticide sprays; the corner gasoline station offers window cleaners and ...

Solvent Isotope Effects

1975
The substitution of D for H is an elegant probe to use in the elucidation of chemical dynamics, and in particular the solvent isotope effect is a powerful technique for investigating the role of the solvent. This will be the main theme of this chapter. When H2O is replaced by D2O it is inevitable that we are dealing with the effects of substitution at ...

Solvent effects in vibrational spectroscopy

Transactions of the Faraday Society, 1960
The effects of solute-solvent interactions on the frequencies, intensities and shapes of the infra-red absorption bands of dissolved molecules are discussed. The interaction potential energy U between a single solute molecule and its environment is treated as a variable depending upon the solvent configuration and on the normal co-ordinates of the ...

Some solvent effects on the solvent extraction of 8-quinolinol

Talanta, 1967
The distribution constants of 8-quinolinol between water and a series of substituted aliphatic hydrocarbons, at 25 degrees , are reported. The results are discussed in terms of dielectric constant and solubility parameter of the solvents. For 8-quinolinol, and possibly for its chelates, bromochloromethane, dibromomethane and chloroform seem to be about

Activationless dynamic solvent effect

Chemical Physics Letters, 2007
The dynamic solvent effect (DSE) is studied numerically at any free energy of electron transfer. In the activationless case the exact result known for an irreversible transfer is confirmed but the commonly accepted approximate results for reversible transfer were corrected.

Solvent effects in nonpolar solvents: Radical anion reactions

Chemical Physics Letters, 1993
Abstract Dimer radical anions, formed by anion—molecule reactions between octafluoronaphthalene and 1,2,4,5-tetrafluorobenzene and their respective radical anions, are observed in n-hexane solvent. The radical anions are characterized by their EPR spectra obtained by the time-resolved fluorescence-detected magnetic resonance technique.

Solvents and Solvent Effects in Biomass Conversion

2014
Hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis of molecules derived from plant biomass are reactions often performed in liquid phase because the highly functionalized biomass molecules (e.g. cellulose, hemicellulose, sugars, and lignin) cannot be vaporized without undergoing thermal decomposition.

Solvent Effects in Exxon Donor-Solvent Coal Liquefaction

1985
The Exxon donor-solvent (EDS) coal liquefaction process is being developed by Exxon Research and Engineering Company (ERaE) under the joint sponsorship of the Department of Energy and private industry.* This development project includes operation of a 250-ton/day (2.27 x 105 kg) liquefaction pilot plant in Bay town, Texas and laboratory and engineering
