Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Somatic dysfunction increase during caffeine withdrawal

open access: yesJournal of Osteopathic Medicine, 1997
Abstract The authors studied the effects of caffeine withdrawal on 14 subjects at baseline and during a 4-day period of abstinence from caffeine. They studied the results from quantitative electroencephalograms performed on these subjects and gauged any changes that may have been evoked during this withdrawal period.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).
