Illusory sensation of movement induced by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. [PDF]
Human movement sense relies on both somatosensory feedback and on knowledge of the motor commands used to produce the movement. We have induced a movement illusion using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation over primary motor cortex and dorsal ...

The state of somatosensory cortex during neuromodulation
During behavioral quiescence, such as slow-wave sleep and anesthesia, the neocortex is in a deactivated state characterized by the presence of slow oscillations. During arousal, slow oscillations are absent and the neocortex is in an activated state that greatly impacts information processing.

Flexible 3D Kirigami Probes for In Vitro and In Vivo Neural Applications
A customizable and scalable approach to fabricate flexible 3D kirigami microelectrode arrays (MEAs) featuring up to 128 shanks, including surface and penetrating electrodes designed to interact with the 3D space of neural tissue, is presented. The 3D kirigami MEAs are successfully deployed in several neural applications, both in vitro and in vivo, and ...

Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, this study offers novel neural evidence for the interaction between central and peripheral processes in handwriting from the perspective of functional brain networks. The manipulation of a central variable induced reconfigurations of the somatomotor network and the cerebellar network, networks known to serve

Auditory input enhances somatosensory encoding and tactile goal-directed behavior
Multi-sensory input can lead to dendritic integration at the single neuron level. Here the authors show that combined auditory and somatosensory input increases distal dendritic and somatic activity in layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons of the primary ...

Frequency Specific Modulation of Human Somatosensory Cortex [PDF]
Oscillatory neuronal activities are commonly observed in response to sensory stimulation. However, their functional roles are still the subject of debate. One-way to probe the roles of oscillatory neural activities is to deliver alternating current to the cortex at biologically relevant frequencies and examine whether such stimulation influences ...

Unraveling schizophrenia replicable functional connectivity disruption patterns across sites
This study reported that ComBat harmonization was most robust in detecting aberrant connectivity while controlling for the false discoveries for schizophrenia. Besides, the identified three subnet‐specific composite functional connectivity measures might be considered replicable neuroimaging markers for schizophrenia.

SYNAPTIC PLASTICITY IN THE SOMATOSENSORY CORTEX
The term synaptic plasticity implies modification in the strength or efficacy of synaptic transmission between pre-existing synapses. Long-term changes in synaptic efficacy have been widely proposed as the cellular mechanism of the learning and memory machineries of the brain.
