COULOMB INTERACTIONS IN SOOT PARTICLE FORMATION

Journal of Aerosol Science, 2001
Soot formation from uncomplete combustion of hydrocarbons is important problem. However, there are many obscure areas in the mechanism of this process. For example, the role of Coulomb interactions in soot coagulation process is not clarified yet.

Soot Formation in Unstrained Diffusion Flames

Combustion Science and Technology, 2014
The formation of soot particles has been investigated in CH4/O2 diffusion flames using a unique burner design, which allows the creation of a nearly unstrained planar reaction sheet. Spatially resolved soot volume fractions were obtained using laser-induced incandescence.

Soot From Fires: II. Mechanisms of Soot Formation

Journal of Fire Sciences, 1985
The mechanisms described for soot formation have been reviewed. It is clear that no one simple mechanism can yet totally describe the complex processes in volved. It has been well established that ions have an important role in the nucleation stage, but controversy still surrounds the extent of their importance as precursors of soot.

Mechanism of Soot Formation.

1984
Abstract : Soot formation in pyrolysis and combustion involves complex reaction systems with many species and individual reactions. It also involves the transition of a gaseous chemical system into a particle-containing (i.e., two-phase) system. Thus, there are various stages of the soot formation process on which to concentrate research investigations.

Soot Formation in Vitiated Combustion

45th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2009
This paper investigates the effect of vitiation on the soot formation process. The motivation behind this study is being able to define and predict the boundaries of flameless combustion as a function of soot precursor concentrations. Although the flameless combustion phenonmenon has varied applications, our primary interest is to predict the onset of ...
