Soot Formation in Small Flames
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1981<div class="htmlview paragraph">This review broadly covers soot formation and its oxidation. Several physical and microstructural aspects are present which are linked to theories attempting to explain soot particle nucleation and growth stages.

Critical Temperatures of Soot Formation
1994A review of critical temperatures for soot formation considering new experimental results from Princeton University and other sources is given. From this the conclusion is drawn that incipient particle formation controls the total mass of soot formed in any process.

Soot formation in combustion processes
Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1989Sooting tendencies of fuels are analyzed with respect to the type of experimental configuration used—per-mixed flames, normal and inverse co-annular, Wolfhard-Parker and counter-flowing diffusion flames, or shock tubes. The important effect of temperature in each type of experiment is examined.

Abstract In most of the studies and theories about soot formation, the starting point of the discussion is the acetylene, disregarding the previous phase which covers the decomposition of the higher hydrocarbons to acetylene In our opinion the primary reaction step of soot formation in diffusion flames is this decomposition by a thermal cracking ...

Ionic Mechanisms of Soot Formation
1983In a recent review1 of soot nucleation mechanisms it was demonstrated that mechanisms based upon neutral free radical species are inadequate to explain soot formation in flames. Either rates are too slow to account for the rapid rate of soot formation or there are difficulties in accounting for the large numbers of polycyclic rings observed in soot ...

Pre-Particle Chemistry in Soot Formation
1981Species and reactions involved in the early stages of soot formation prior to the formation of particles have been studied in flat low pressure flames of benzene using a molecular beam mass spectrometer system. In a near-sooting (equivalence ratio φ = 1.8) benzene-oxygen-argon flame, the profiles of molar flux versus distance from the burner for ...
