Afamelanotide improves quality of life and light tolerance in Austrian erythropoietic protoporphyria patients

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, EarlyView.
Summary Background Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by severe phototoxic reactions that occur within minutes of light exposure. In clinical studies, afamelanotide has been shown to prolong pain‐free sun exposure, improve quality of life, and reduce the frequency and severity of phototoxic reactions ...

Human IDO2 exhibits unique binding affinities distinct to those of human IDO1

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Although indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase 2 (IDO2) is highly homologous to IDO1, it displays markedly lower catalytic activity. We found that IDO2 binds L‐tryptophan (L‐Trp) in a flipped orientation stabilized by the IDO2‐specific residue His143. Replacement of His143 with the IDO1‐equivalent tyrosine restored an IDO1‐like binding mode and increased ...

Multiphysics Finite Element Analysis of Diffusive–Bioconvective MHD Hybrid Nanofluid Flow Over an Exponentially Stretching Sheet

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics
This study examines the diffusive–bioconvective magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a hybrid nanofluid past an exponentially stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium, incorporating thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, Soret–Dufour effects, and ...

Comparative study of hybrid, tri-hybrid and tetra-hybrid nanoparticles in MHD unsteady flow with chemical reaction, activation energy, Soret-Dufour effect and sensitivity analysis over Non-Darcy porous stretching cylinder

open access: yesHeliyon
Present study investigates influence of Soret-Dufour effects on MHD unsteady flow of a tetra-hybrid nanofluid (Al2O3, Cu, SiO2 and TiO2 with base fluid water) within non-Darcy porous stretching cylinder. Additionally, chemical reaction, activation energy,

PEG400 regulates Falcipain 2 activity through an allosteric mechanism

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Falcipain‐2 can potentially be leveraged as a drug target due to its critical role as a haemoglobinase during the intra‐erythrocytic stage of Plasmodium falciparum. Here, we investigate the regulation of the proteolytic and haemoglobinase activity of falcipain‐2 in the presence of polyethylene glycol.

Unraveling the active site cover of coproheme decarboxylase from Listeria monocytogenes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
During heme biosynthesis in Gram‐positive bacteria, coproheme decarboxylase (ChdC) catalyzes the conversion of four‐propionate substrate coproheme to the two propionate product heme b. Its active site is universally covered by a flexible linking loop. This study identifies an important histidine residue, which stabilizes the loop in a ChdC homolog.

Influence of internal heat source on double-diffusive Soret induced convection in a binary fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The neutral convection in a double-diffusive fluid layer subject to the internal heat source (internal heating) and thermodiffusion or also known as Soret effect is studied analytically.

Student–teacher relationships as a mediator of children's education‐linked genetics: results from the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background Genetic differences are robustly associated with educational outcomes, but how they become linked is poorly understood. A plausible hypothesis, yet to be thoroughly empirically tested, is that the school environment mediates the association. Methods Using structural equation models, we tested whether the student–teacher relationship at age 5

Transient oscillations in Soret-driven convection in a colloidal suspension

open access: yes, 2004
We present measurements of the transient stage of Soret-driven convective instability. The sample is a diluted colloidal suspension of silica spheres in water with an unusually large negative Soret coefficient ST.

Subduction Initiation and Early Subduction Zone Development: Insights From the P–T–t Path of the Bay of Islands Metamorphic Sole

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The processes involved during subduction initiation (SI) remain poorly constrained, in part due to the rarity of geological archives. Ophiolites and their underlying metamorphic soles are thought to form during subduction zone infancy and may thus provide critical constraints. Metamorphic soles are derived from oceanic crust of the lower plate
