DNA damage response and cell cycle regulation in bacteria: a twist around the paradigm
The co-protease activity in the RecA-ssDNA complex cleaves the autorepressor LexA, resulting in the derepression of a large number of genes under LexA control.

Bacteria under SOS evolve anticancer phenotypes
Background The anticancer drugs, such as DNA replication inhibitors, stimulate bacterial adhesion and induce the bacterial SOS response. As a variety of bacterial mutants can be generated during SOS, novel phenotypes are likely to be selected under the ...

TGTMW fibers are designed to show a sharp resistance increase under pressure, as the multi‐wall structure in the transition region between compressed and uncompressed areas bends and forms microcracks. This design breaks the physical sensitivity limit of conventional fiber‐shaped pressure sensors, which usually show resistance reduction under pressure ...

Redesign of ultrasensitive and robust RecA gene circuit to sense DNA damage
Summary SOS box of the recA promoter, PVRecA from Vibrio natriegens was characterized, cloned and expressed in a probiotic strain E. coli Nissle 1917. This promoter was then rationally engineered according to predicted interactions between LexA repressor

Aeons of distress : an evolutionary perspective on the bacterial SOS response [PDF]
The SOS response of bacteria is a global regulatory network targeted at addressing DNA damage. Governed by the products of the lexA and recA genes, it co-ordinates a comprehensive response against DNA lesions and its description in Escherichia coli has ...

Is suramin truly a good inhibitor of the bacterial RecA protein? Inhibition and activation, two sides of the same coin [PDF]
Bacteria live in a hostile habitat and are continuously exposed to a multitude of environmental stress that can compromise the survival of the cells in the absence of an efficient adaptation system.

Surface Oxidation of 2D γ‐Indium Sulfide Nanoplatelets and Its Impact on Photoluminescence
Photoluminescence of defective 2D γ‐In2S3 can be modulated after exposure to air or oxygen‐containing ligands. Cryogenic photoluminescence measurements reveal that a new acceptor level is introduced upon oxidation, modulating the relative intensity of the emission bands.
