Die Talsperre Sosa wird aus der Kleinen Bockau und dem Neudecker Bach gespeist. Das natürliche Einzugsgebiet der Talsperre beträgt nur rund 8,45 Quadratkilometer. Da dies für das Versorgungsgebiet nicht ausreichte, wurde schon bei der Planung des Bauwerkes eine Überleitung aus dem Einzugsgebiet der Großen Bockau anvisiert.
