Functional compensation between clarin‐1 and clarin‐2 in cochlear hair cells. Hearing loss associated with CLRN1 mutations shows striking phenotypic variability; however, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study reveals that clarin‐1 and clarin‐2 function cooperatively in cochlear hair cells to sustain mechanoelectrical ...

Tunable Sound Absorption via Evanescent‐Wave Coupling in Asymmetric Bilayer Metasurfaces
Tunable sound absorption is realized through a bilayer metasurface system governed by evanescent‐wave coupling. This work demonstrates that such evanescent‐wave coupling provides a controllable scattering channel that destructively interferes with the specular reflection.

Acoustically Tailored Composite Rotorcraft Fuselage Panels [PDF]
A rotorcraft roof sandwich panel has been redesigned to optimize sound power transmission loss (TL) and minimize structure-borne sound for frequencies between 1 and 4 kHz where gear meshing noise from the transmission has the most impact on speech ...

Design of phononic crystal for enhancing low-frequency sound absorption in mufflers
To enhance the low-frequency sound absorption capabilities of expansion chamber mufflers, a novel Helmholtz-ring phononic crystal cell was developed. This innovative design integrates ring Helmholtz resonators as the phononic crystal scatterer, which is ...

Scalable Electrochemical Concrete Fabrication and Closed‐Loop Recycling
The electrochemical‐driven recycling strategy establishes a reversible concrete material flow by extracting Ca, Si, Al, and Fe from concrete waste and regenerating functional feedstocks. These reversed products are reassembled into new concrete, which re‐enters service and ultimately returns to waste, enabling a closed‐loop, waste‐origin, and low ...

A research program to reduce interior noise in general aviation airplanes: Investigation of the characteristics of an acoustic panel test facility [PDF]
Sound pressure levels in the test facility were studied that are caused by varying: (1) microphone positions; (2) equalizer setting; and (3) panel clamping forces.
