Final set of candidate management procedures for the South African hake resource

2010
This paper presents detailed results for the anticipated performances of six final Candidate Management Procedures (CMPs) for hake, both for the Reference Set of trials and for a wide range of robustness tests. The final choice amongst these six CMPs for the hake OMP to be recommended to provide TAC recommendations for 2011 to 2014 is to be made at the

Further candidate management procedures projections for the South African hake resource

2014
This document reports further developments in the hake OMP revision process. First the requested 150 000t upper cap is placed on the TAC, and tunings to different average TACs over the next 10 years are contrasted, together with options for a prefixed TAC for the next two years.

2008 routine update of the South African hake resource baseline assessment

2008
This paper presents a routine update of the South African hake assessment, including new commercial (catches and CPUE) and survey (abundance estimates) data. This update is for a “baseline” assessment, chosen to correspond to the scenario amongst the 2006 Reference Set which had the highest likelihood (M1-H1-C1-SR2).

Routine update of the 2008 baseline assessment for the South African hake resource

2009
The 2008 “New Baseline” assessment for hake is updated to take account of further information that has become available over the past year. The update leads to only slight changes to results, which continue to manifest a lack of fit to catch-at-length distributions. The “New Reference Case” methodology (Rademeyer and Butterworth, 2009) , which resolves

Further candidate management procedure testing for the South African hake resource

2010
This document provides a further progress report on the development of a revised Operational Management Procedure (OMP) for the South African hake resource. It follows on from Rademeyer and Butterworth (2010), and the discussion thereof recorded in the Aide Memoire of the DWG meeting held on 21-22 July, 2010 (FISHERIES/2010/JULY/SWG-DEM/35).

And yet further candidate management procedure testing for the South African hake resource

2010
This document reports progress on hake OMP revision issues identified at the last DWG meeting as requiring further attention. In particular it updates the Reference Case CMP in terms of the agreements reached at that meeting. Suggestions are made for the final set of calculations needed before a selection is made amongst CMPs at the following DWG ...

An initial attempt at a spatially structured stock assessment for the South African hake resource

2008
This document presents a first attempt at a spatially structured model for the South African hake (the model equations are set out in Appendix 1). It is currently assumed that M. paradoxus and M. capensis both consist of a single stock across the South African west and south coasts (and possibly extending to Namibia).

Proposed reference set for the South African hake resource to be used in OMP-2010 testing

2010
A Reference Set (RS) of 12 scenarios is put forward as the primary basis to be used to simulation test candidates for the revised OMP for hake, OMP-2010. The principal uncertainty axes spanned by this RS are the central year for the switch from a primarily M. capensis to a primarily M.

Progress on the development of a revised operational management procedure (OMP) for the South African hake resource

2010
Initial results of the application of various Candidate Management Procedures to the agreed Reference Set of trials are presented. Provisional operational objectives have been used to limit the range of options considered, where these objectives take account of MSC certification requirements.
