Microphysical chemistry of fog–aerosol interactions over the northwest Atlantic Ocean during Fatima 2022

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Fifteen size‐resolved aerosol samples collected during marine fog, with adjacent ambient observations, show that coarse sea salt aerosol is rapidly grown and lost in the northwest North Atlantic Ocean except when subject to extreme winds. The persistence of fog in the absence of sea salt is determined by available fine‐mode aerosol, where greater ...

Deep-water Mangeliinae, Taraninae and Clathurellinae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Conoidea: Turridae) from the Campos Basin, southeast Brazil

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2010
During the program “Environmental Characterization of the Campos Basin, RJ, Brazil”, from 2001 to 2003, samples were taken of soft bottoms from the continental slope of Campos Basin (off southeast Brazil) by the Research Vessel “Astro-Garoupa” with a 0 ...

Wall‐to‐wall Amazon forest height mapping with Planet NICFI, Aerial LiDAR, and a U‐Net regression model

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Tree canopy height is a key indicator of forest biomass and structure, yet accurate mapping across the Amazon remains challenging. Here, we generated a canopy height map of the Amazon forest at ~4.8 m resolution using Planet NICFI imagery and a deep learning U‐Net model trained with airborne LiDAR data.

First record of the genus Eumunida Smith, 1883 (Crustacea, Decapoda, Eumunididae) from the southwestern Atlantic, with the description of a new species

open access: yesPapéis Avulsos de Zoologia
Eumunida pictaSmith, 1883, was considered for over a century an amphi-Atlantic species and the only representative of the genus in the Atlantic Ocean, until being split into three species: E.

The Interactional Pathways of Mass Killings: Toward a Novel Understanding of Rampage School Shootings

open access: yesSymbolic Interaction, EarlyView.
Rampage school shootings, where students go to their own school to randomly kill classmates, teachers, friends, and strangers, are among the most drastic types of human behavior. While research increasingly points to interaction dynamics as being key for the emergence of crime and violence, scholars have not yet systematically studied interaction ...
