Multi‐environment evaluation of raffinose‐family oligosaccharide content in diverse dry bean varieties and their reduction upon canning

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The substantial amount of raffinose family oligosaccharide (RFO) in dry beans causes flatulence and digestive discomfort, limiting the appeal of dry bean food products. Substantial variation exists in RFO content among dry bean varieties, and various food processing steps such as soaking and canning are known to reduce RFO levels ...

CO2 Fluxes and Soil Responses to Straw and Herbicide in Peanut

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Peanut cultivation plays an important agronomic role in Brazil, especially in rotation with sugarcane, promoting biological nitrogen fixation and improving soil quality. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that the combined use of sugarcane mulch, peanut cultivation, and herbicide application would affect soil CO₂ fluxes, soil chemical ...

Evaluation of fall‐seeded cover crops for grassland nesting waterfowl in eastern South Dakota

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView., 2023
Cover crops are experiencing a revival among Midwestern farmers, and we assessed their attractiveness and safety for nesting ducks in South Dakota. Nest success was markedly lower in cover crops than in perennial cover during both years of our study, including 2019 which was a best‐case scenario for cover crops, with extremely wet conditions delaying ...

Root‐Applied Phyto‐Courier Loaded With Rutin Translocates to Aerial Tissues Inducing Molecular and Anatomical Changes in Cannabis sativa Under Salinity

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView.
The rutin‐loaded phyto‐courier formulation was taken up by hemp roots and translocated to aerial organs, inducing changes in the metabolome and gene expression. Under salt stress, the formulation preserved the leaf palisade layer and promoted the development of bast fibers in the stems.
