Focus issue introduction: space-division multiplexing
Since the publication of the first focus issue [Opt. Express 19(11), 2011], single-fiber transmission capacity has eclipsed the 1 Pb/s mark. All aspects related to space-division multiplexing including fiber, passive components [(de)multiplexer, couplers], active components (EDFA and Raman amplifiers), switching and routing elements (ROADM and WSS), as

Multi-Element Fibre for Space-Division Multiplexed Transmission [PDF]
We present a multi-element fibre (MEF) as a novel candidate for space-division-multiplexing of optical channels that require high density of data transfer. 3-MEFs, comprising three individual fibres in a common coating, have been fabricated and error-free transmission has been demonstrated.

Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Chemically Doped Conductive Polymers for Wearable Health Monitoring
Among conductive polymers, poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), polyaniline (PANI), and polypyrrole (PPy) are the most studied and applied. Chemical doping significantly boosts intrinsic conductivity and mechanical robustness.
