Application of low enthalpy geothermal fluid for space heating and cooling, honey processing and milk pasteurization

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2019
In recent times geothermal industries are more focused towards other utilization rather than the electricity generation using geothermal water. Space heating and cooling, Honey processing and Milk pasteurization through geothermal water are some of such ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

New insights into thermal comfort sufficiency in dwellings

open access: yesBuildings & Cities
Domestic heating is a major contributor to energy consumption and must be minimised to achieve climate targets. Building on the concept of addressing the distinct heating needs of individuals and buildings separately, the Slowheat project implemented a ...

Demand Response Control of Space Heating in Three Different Building Types in Finland and Germany

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Demand response has been noted as a major element of future smart energy systems. However, there is still a lack of knowledge about the demand response actions in different conditions—including climate, dynamic energy price, and building types.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Leveraging TRNSYS simulations of a single family house in Spain for renewable energy integration

open access: yesGreen Energy and Sustainability
A dynamic model was developed in TRNSYS® software package to simulate the thermal behavior of a single family house in Spain during a year. The model takes into consideration the characteristics of the building (orientation, insulation, thermal zones ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Exploring diverse drivers behind hybrid heating solutions

open access: yesBuildings & Cities
How do individuals reflect on and relate to hybrid heating arrangements and the ‘stacking’ of heating modes in their home? Drawing on a set of oral histories (n = 110) collected in Finland, inhabitants’ long-standing engagement with versatile heating ...
