4D‐Printed Spin Crossover Metamaterials with Giant Programmable Positive or Negative Thermal Expansion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Spin crossover composite filaments are implemented for the rational design of 4D‐printed mechanical metamaterials. The obtained bi‐material structures guided by a theoretical analysis based on analytical calculations and Finite Element Analysis simulations exhibit giant programmable positive or negative deformation with coefficients of thermal ...

Magnetic Diagnostics of Prominence Eruptions through the Hanle Effect of the He i 1083 nm Line

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The magnetic field vector of the solar corona is not regularly and comprehensively being measured because of the complexity and degeneracy inherently present in the types of observations currently available.

Identification of animal movement patterns using tri-axial magnetometry

open access: yesMovement Ecology, 2017
Background Accelerometers are powerful sensors in many bio-logging devices, and are increasingly allowing researchers to investigate the performance, behaviour, energy expenditure and even state, of free-living animals.

Ferromagnetism of Molecular Beam Epitaxy‐grown Ultra‐thin Cr2Ge2Te6 Films Down to the Monolayer Limit on Si Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform monolayer Cr2Ge2Te6 films are achieved on Si substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Intrinsic ferromagnetism with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is established in the films by anomalous Hall effect and superconducting quantum interference device measurements, albeit with strong magnetic fluctuations characteristic of its 2D nature.

High‐Resolution Magnetic‐Geochemical Mapping of the Serpentinized and Carbonated Atlin Ophiolite, British Columbia: Toward Establishing Magnetometry as a Monitoring Tool for In Situ Mineral Carbonation

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2023
We address in situ serpentinization and mineral carbonation processes in oceanic lithosphere using integrated field magnetic measurements, rock magnetic analyses, superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) microscopy, microtextural observations,

Topological Hall effect in thin films of Mn$_{1.5}$PtSn

open access: yes, 2018
Spin chirality in metallic materials with non-coplanar magnetic order can give rise to a Berry phase induced topological Hall effect. Here, we report the observation of a large topological Hall effect in high-quality films of Mn$_{1.5}$PtSn that were ...

A Compact Incubation Platform for Long‐Term Cultivation of Biological Samples for Nitrogen‐Vacancy Center Widefield Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A compact incubation platform enables long‐term cultivation of biological samples directly on diamond quantum sensors for NV widefield magnetometry. The 3D‐printed biocompatible chamber provides a temperature controlled, CO2${\rm CO}_2$ and humidity rich environment while accommodating total internal reflection excitation geometry.

Novel color center platforms enabling fundamental scientific discovery

open access: yes, 2020
Color centers are versatile systems that generate quantum light, sense magnetic fields and produce spin-photon entanglement. We review how these properties have pushed the limits of fundamental knowledge in a variety of scientific disciplines, from ...

Ferromagnetic Resonance Response of bcc Fe60V40 Layers Generated from Short‐Range Ordered Precursors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Layers of body‐centered cubic (bcc) Fe60V40 are generated in short‐range ordered (SRO) Fe60V40 precursors through atomic displacements caused by the irradiation of light noble gas ions. The structural change leads to the onset of ferromagnetism confined to the bcc layers. Here, the variation of ferromagnetic resonance response as a function of
