Effects of pontic span and fiber reinforcement on fracture strength of multi-unit provisional fixed partial dentures

open access: yesJournal of Dental Sciences, 2019
Background/purpose: Clinically, PMMA resin is extensively used for fabricating provisional FPDs. However, fracture often occurs due to the unsatisfactory mechanical strength, especially within connectors of long-span provisional FPDs. The purpose of this

On the identifiability of ternary forms

open access: yes, 2020
We describe a new method to determine the minimality and identifiability of a Waring decomposition $A$ of a specific form (symmetric tensor) $T$ in three variables.

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SIZE AND THE RATE OF CALCIUM–DEPENDENT PROTEOLYSIS IN SKELETAL MUSCLES IN THE ATLANTIC SALMON (SALMO SALAR L.) AND BROWN TROUT (SALMO TRUTTA L.) FROM RIVERS DRAINING TO THE WHITE SEA (ARKHANGELSK REGION)

open access: yesTransactions of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2018
The activity level of calcium-dependent proteases of the calpain family in skeletal muscles of the atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) and brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) from some watercourses (the Zolotitsa River and Lopatka stream) draining to the White ...

Comparison of calculated and experimental cascade performance for controlled-diffusion compressor stator blading [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
The mid-span section of a previously reported controlled-diffusion compressor stator has been experimentally evaluated in cascade. Measurements are taken over a range of incidence angles for blade chord Reynolds numbers from 470,000 to 690,000.

Planar Length-Constrained Minimum Spanning Trees

open access: yes
In length-constrained minimum spanning tree (MST) we are given an $n$-node graph $G = (V,E)$ with edge weights $w : E \to \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}$ and edge lengths $l: E \to \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}$ along with a root node $r \in V$ and a length-constraint $h \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}$.

On the total length of the random minimal directed spanning tree [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Probability, 2006
In Bhatt and Roy's minimal directed spanning tree construction for a random, partially ordered set of points in the unit square, all edges must respect the ‘coordinatewise’ partial order and there must be a directed path from each vertex to a minimal element. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the total length of this graph with power-weighted edges.

Telomere shortening rate predicts species life span

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2019
Significance The exact causes of aging are still not understood, and it is unclear why some species live less than 1 d, while others can live more than 400 y.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status
